A message from our pastor:
This past weekend, I informed both Six:Eight and William Peace of my decision to step down from my roles as Lead Pastor and University Chaplain. In June, we’ll be relocating to Florida, marking the end of a cherished chapter here.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve accepted what I consider a dream opportunity at Rollins College in Winter Park, near Orlando.
I will be the new Dean of Religious and Spiritual Life and will also be a Lecturer in the Religion and African-American Studies department. This position is a dream come true. I’m humbled at my selection and thrilled to serve the staff, faculty, students and Winter Park community.
Over the last two years, I’ve felt a strong and distinct pull towards a new direction — stepping into academia as a professor and administrator, a role I’m excited and ready to pursue as my future vocation.
Reflecting on my thirteen years in full-time ministry, I am filled with gratitude for an extraordinary journey of joyous achievements and profound challenges.
This decision wasn’t easy. We’ve grown to deeply love Durham, the Triangle, and North Carolina. This place has been our beloved home for seven years, blessing us with a wonderful community and lifelong friendships.
To the Six:Eight community, what an incredible five-year journey it’s been! I am profoundly grateful for being part of a church that champions justice and equity in Durham and exemplifies generosity and hospitality. Six:Eight has been more than a church; it’s been a haven of healing for my family and me. Your grace and fellowship have been invaluable. I will carry moments with you all for the rest of my life. You were a rock for me at pivotal times in my life over the last five years. It’s been an honor serving with you all.
I ask for your prayers as the Six:Eight church council and the NC conference leadership discuss the future steps for our church. Please also pray for our family during the transition to Orlando. With the tasks of packing, moving, selling our house, and settling into my new role ahead, we covet your prayers for a smooth process.
With Love,
The Briscoes
