Some types of sarcoma are associated with Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, an inherited cancer pre-disposition caused by mutations of the TP53 gene. A case study of two Chinese patients with myxoid chondrosarcomas showed that more intensive treatment worked better, even though that patient appeared to have a more difficult to treat disease. A gene, SERPINE1, often associated with poorer cancer outcomes, showed a higher amount of expression in soft tissue sarcoma cells after treatment with Pazopanib, particularly in cell lines that were susceptible to the agent. This could be a new marker to indicate if this targeted treatment is effective in a particular sarcoma.

A gene tied to poor sarcoma prognosis also rose fastest in pazopanib-sensitive sarcoma cell lines, a new exploratory study suggests.

Rhabdomyosarcoma has several sub-types which have overall different outcomes. The definitions have changed a bit time, with embryonal and alveolar types mostly now being defined as fusion-negative and fusion-positive. After a cold, nurse Julie Fontenot continued to cough, which was ultimately diagnosed as synovial sarcoma in her lung.
