Cycle 51 First Visit - September 5

The first Family Visit for Cycle 51 will take place on Saturday, September 5, at the NMYCA Barracks. During this visit, the NMYCA Student Government Association will host a Pet Food Donation Drive to support Roswell’s local pet rescue shelters. Donating 50 lbs of dry pet food will earn your Cadet up to 2 extra hours of visit time.

Pet Food Donation Drive
Hosted by the NMYCA Student Government Association
- Male Platoons: Please bring dog food, Pedigree Dog Food preferred by the shelters
- Female Platoon: Please bring cat food, Meow Mix/Kit and Kaboodle Cat Food Preferred by the shelters
- A donation of 50 lbs earns your Cadet 2 additional hours of visit time. You can combine bags to make the weight.

September 5 Visit Schedule
- 8:00 AM – Families may begin arriving; pet food donations accepted
- 8:30 AM – Drill and Ceremony presentation by the Cycle 51 Cadets
- 9:00 AM – Cadet sign‑out begins. Cadets can leave the campus for the day.
-4:00 PM – Return time for Cadets without extra hours
- 6:00 PM – Return time for Cadets who earned Pet Food Donation hours

We are looking for community support. We have a lady who is in need of dog food as she has a bunch of animals at her house that are waiting to be picked up by Animal Control, they are dogs that have been dumped over her fence. She could use the assistance to help feed them until the shelter has room to take them. And just take note that she is working with San Juan County Animal Control. She also has a horse and some goats and is in need of some hay. If anyone could donate through Venmo or through our linktree connection, we would gladly deliver these supplies to her. She is located in San Juan County. Is there anyone who can step up and help us help her?

So Tankie got his bath. He looks much better but is gonna need another one to work out the dreadlocks and tangles. He has such long hair and getting the water makes a quick hot mess out of him. He will soon have another round of washing, blowing and brushing and then his brother Kaos will be next.

Wayaho came to us in January 2022 after he got into some trouble in his home and neighborhood in Lawtin, OK.

He had already been in 2 different homes, the first being abusive.
His 2nd family loved him, but couldn't provide for his needs. So they surrendered him to us.
Big Way was a beautiful, sweet 133 pound boy who loved to talk trash through the fence. Unfortunately he was doing just that when he over exerted himself in the heat and collapsed. He had a heat stroke!
Normally he would jump in his 130 gallon water tub to cool down, but for some reason this particular day he did not.
We were there when it happened and immediately began the cooling process. We called ahead and loaded him and rushed him to the vet clinic where he had a major seizure.
Dr Bracken administered medications for the seizures, for inflammation in the brain and other meds to stabilize him.
Once home the seizures continued despite the medications. He was on Keppra, first 2000mg, then 3000mg. then added phenobarbital to try and control them. Unfortunately he appeared to have brain damage and had started in with other neurological symptoms like pacing, disorientation, feet dragging and just laying in the water to try and control his body temperature.
So after near a month of trying to regain his quality of life, we were forced to make the choice to end his suffering.
Wayaho was another animal that was not a fan of men after being abused, but my hubby always seems to have to right energy to let them know that there are decent men who love animals and can be trusted.
We miss his large presence and will never forget our big sweet boy.
Say a prayer for our pack today as we do mourn the loss.

Meet Peanut, who is obviously not a wolf.

We want the whole world to know his story!

Peanut came to me in 2015 after the first owners mistreated him very badly!
Peanut was from Sedan, Kansas. His family was extremely abuse and it is a miracle he made it out alive. But he did!!

Peanut was an extraordinary little man and his story deserves to be shared and we only hope that the lowlife who hurt him sees this.

You see, they used him as a football...kicked him in the face and fractured his jaw. He was so traumatized by it that he was basically feral, which made his capture difficult. Once captured his little jaw was repaired.
After being adopted he was very shy, and men in general terrified him. But after years of showing him he had nothing to fear, he became best friends with my husband.
Peanut was an amazing soul. After so much trauma mentally and physically he was still the sweetest little boy on the planet.
We want the world to know that no matter what he had to go through, his spirit was never broke! He thrived, he never gave up and he always found a reason to be happy!
Years later, his jaw refractured and had to be removed. He spent years struggling to eat, he developed an enlarged heart and was on meds for quite a while. His back went out once and we were able to use laser light therapy to correct it. Dr Bracken at Animal Haven was his Dr. and always went above and beyond to do what she could to keep him healthy and happy.

Unfortunately at the age of 13 years he became tired of the struggle to eat, and his weight rapidly declined. After a lengthy battle of the heart we came to the conclusion that it was unfair to try and keep him going, knowing he was suffering. So Peanut crossed the rainbow bridge on July 31st, 2026.
We will never forget the joy he brought to us and all our other furkids. He lived a happy, active life with all his other little buddies, and slept in bed under the top blanket with his brother Mikey every...single...night!

So to the evil person who hurt him...we want you to know that you may have broke his jaw, but you NEVER broke the boy or his spirit!
Retribution will come when God decides it is time.
