The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA Protecting Scotland’s heritage and natural beauty now and for generations to come

The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA encourages Americans to participate in caring for the irreplaceable natural and cultural heritage properties protected by the National Trust for Scotland. By raising visibility and funding for urgent conservation activities in Scotland, we can make sure that the rich history and traditions shared by Scots and Americans are preserved for future generations. The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA supports the Trust in their educated and responsible approach to conservation by annually promoting a range of the Trust’s priority projects for the consideration of American donors. Since 2000, the Foundation has provided $10 million in funding for the Trust’s work. Donations to The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

This October, Culloden Battlefield will welcome a delegation of senior U.S. Congressional staff and representatives from the British Embassy in Washington for a special visit highlighting Scotland’s history, culture, and natural heritage.

During their time at Culloden, the delegation will receive a tour of the battlefield and learn more about the significance of this remarkable place, the work of the National Trust for Scotland, and Culloden’s contribution to the surrounding community. They’ll also have the opportunity to meet the Highland cattle supported by the National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA.

The visit is part of a wider UK trip for the delegation and offers an important opportunity to introduce influential U.S. leaders to Scotland’s heritage firsthand and strengthen the longstanding connections between Scotland and the United States.
We’re delighted to help make this visit possible and to share the work being done to protect places like Culloden for generations to come.

The future of the Glasgow School of Art’s iconic Mackintosh Building remains uncertain.

The School has announced that it cannot undertake a full restoration on its own and has proposed forming a new national partnership to meet the challenge. National Trust for Scotland Chief Executive Phil Long has welcomed that proposal, emphasizing that restoring one of Scotland’s greatest buildings will require national commitment and collaboration at the highest levels.

Known affectionately as “the Mack,” Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s masterpiece has inspired creativity for more than a century and become an important part of Scotland’s cultural identity. Its restoration would allow it to serve once again as a beacon of Scotland’s past—and its creative future.

The team at Away from the Ordinary recently organised a luxury private boat tour to the magnificent island of Staffa for one of our clients.

Famed for its basalt columns that form Fingal’s Cave, Staffa has inspired everything from folklore to overtures. Our clients visited the island, managed by the National Trust for Scotland, to experience its breathtaking geology and its puffins. The boat journey was made in style, with a fully catered seafood lunch on board.
