Priests for Life Canada Priests For Life Canada brings together and encourages priests and all Catholics to fight the culture of death, particularly abortion and euthanasia.

Priests for Life Canada is an association of Canadian Catholic priests and lay people who give special emphasis to promoting and defending the sanctity of human life. A ‘Priest for Life’ is not asked to leave his diocese or specific ministry. But isn’t every priest ‘for life’? Yes, in fact, every person is called to stand for life. ‘Priest for Life’ means that being ‘for life’ is ESSENTIAL to the

life of EVERY priest. (Just like, while every priest is for Jesus, there is also a Society of Jesus.) Why are so many lay people involved in Priests for Life Canada? Lay people lend support to the operations of Priests for Life Canada. It is also important for Catholic lay people to become involved in pro-life issues. Most information distributed by Priests for Life Canada is designed or directly approved by priests.

The World Day of Prayer for Priests takes place on the same day as the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart. Pope Saint John Paul II instituted this day to remind us that, Christ became man with a body, flesh, and heart. The priesthood is the love of the heart of Jesus. The priest acts as Christ (alter Christus), but they have weaknesses like us. Let us pray for all priests that they continue to be good shepherds of Christ and live up to their vocation.

“In the Sacred Heart, every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is hidden. In that divine heart beats God’s infinite love for everyone and for each of us as individuals.” - St. John Paul II. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

St. Ignatius Choukrallah Maloyan was born in 1869 in Mardin (present-day Türkiye) and was ordained a priest in 1883 in Lebanon.
He took the Christian name Ignatius and became known as an excellent preacher in both Arabic and Turkish, devoting himself to parish ministry and the study of sacred texts in Alexandria, Egypt.
In 1911, he was appointed Archbishop of Mardin by Pope Pius X. After Turkish forces entered the First World War (Türkiye was allied with Germany), Archbishop Maloyan was arrested along with thirteen priests and six hundred other Christians in the tumult that included forced enlistments and harassment against Christians, particularly Armenian Christians.
Archbishop Maloyan and his companions were executed on June 11, 1915 when they refused to renounce the faith. Pope St. John Paul II beatified him on October 7, 2001.

It is believed that after his conversion, Barnabas sold all of his property and gave the proceeds to the Apostles. He subsequently lived in community with Christian converts in Jerusalem and persuaded them to accept Paul after his miraculous conversion. Barnabas is an exemplary model for all Christian disciples as one who encourages and supports others in their journeys of faith and as a bold witness of the Gospel. May we love and accompany those who need healing and do not see hope in the face of trial, so to lead them to true life in Christ. As Christian defenders of life, we must also love and accompany those who have had an abortion and assist those in our families and communities who are struggling to see their worth as beloved sons and daughters of the Father.

Ephrem is the only Syriac Christian recognized as a Doctor of the Church. He defended the Catholic Church in the 4th century when false doctrines were being shared during that time. He was ordained a deacon and declined becoming a priest. His craft was writing, while allowing the Holy Spirit to guide him in his literature. He would write insights about the Scriptures, humanity’s redemption, and Jesus' mercy. He would rewrite the modern songs of that time and change them into hymns of orthodox doctrine. Through the intercession of St. Ephrem may we use our gifts of singing and writing to praise the Lord and change the hearts of the world.

“Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament … There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves upon earth.” - J.R.R. Tolkien
