Drugs in the 1970s and 1980s were not as evident as they are now. Some of these drugs that are ported in the United States are some of the same drugs that are prescribed to help with illness or pain. Also, drugs were done behind_” close_ doors”, not in the open as they are now. The coca leaf was one of the main ingredients in the medicine prescribed (EN. M.Wikipedia.Org). Today it has been replaced as a medical anaesthetic by synthetic analogues

Ma*****na was a popular drug in the 1960s in Latin America (Carlen, L). The culture of the time was change amongst the youth in which they were rebellious to the current societies’ norm(drugfree.com). Some examples of change were seen through various way of expression such as music, drugs, fashion, and a change in thinking which they felt society was not right for them. The use of ma*****na had become popular, which after the World War 2, and the upcoming of the Vietnam War, and the increasing freedom of teens brought about the drug which with ma*****na came the hippies, and Rastafarian (drugfree.com). W**d was the most commonly used illicit drug in the 1960s. Ma*****na has been, and currently is the most widely used illegal substance in the world. Ma*****na has many street names such as kush, chronic, pot, herb, w**d, grass, boom, and piff. Nine states and the District of Columbia have legalized the drug for recreational purpose. Some states are wanting to legalize ma*****na for medical use only (Carlsen, L).

In the 1980s crack was introduced to the world. Crack was only appearing in Los Angeles, San Diego, Houston, and the Caribbean. By the end of 1987 crack was available in almost every state but four. Crack was one of the biggest epidemics in America. This epidemic began in 1984-1990 (Gootenburg, P).
Co***ne and crack were produced from coca leaves, which is an intoxicant that dates back over three thousand years. Crack co***ne, a crystallized form of co***ne, was developed during the co***ne boom of the 1970s that began to spread in the mid-1980s (drugfree.com). In the 1980s crack co***ne was used amongst the older adults. In the early 2000s the use of crack co***ne was a soaring drug particularly with the 14-18-year-olds, fueling the recent dramatic rise in violent street crimes. There is evidence that this drug is spreading out from its traditional user base, with addicts just as likely to be Asian or white or middle class as they are to be black or working class. The use of crack co***ne is showing no signs of slowing. We are seeing increasing numbers of the young crack users and the trend seems to be spiraling(drugfreeworld.org).

But Coke did not become completely free of co***ne until the year of 1929(Palmermo, Elizabeth), when scientist perfected the process of removing all psychoactive elements from the coca-leaf extract.

Drugs In America
“Trafficking and Epidemic of Drugs Proposal”
Drug trafficking has been one of the most successful reason for addictions that affect many Americans. Drugs are being ported into the United States every day, whether it is on a boat, train, plane or car. Trafficking has led to many drug epidemics. In order to save our youth, and young adults, we must bring awareness to drugs in America. The purpose of this paper is to bring awareness and a resolution to our community about drug addiction.
Literature Review:
European scientist was the first to isolate co***ne from the coca leaf in the 1850s. Once lauded as a medical “wonder drug.” Co***ne is one of the most recognize addictive substance on Earth. Co***ne was used as a surgical anesthesia for cataract patients (History.com). The eye would soak in the co***ne solution and would later be replaced. Doctors found that patients no longer flinched when the scalpel touched the eye once it was soaked in the co***ne solution. Pharmaceutical companies began marketing this anesthetic (History.com).
It was also rumored that Coca-Cola one of the world’s most popular soda company in America used co***ne in their drinks. It was rumored that in 1903 the world-famous soft drink contained a significant dose of co***ne (Palmermo, Elizabeth). There were many that said they had evidence to prove the product contained the drug. While Coca-Cola Company officially denies that presence of co***ne in any of the its products (Palmermo, Elizabeth).
Coca-Cola products was created in 1886 by an Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton. To avoid liquor regulations, Pemberton chose to mix coca-leaf extract with sugar syrup, kola-nut extract instead of wine. Co***ne was not made illegal in United States until 1914(Palmermo, Elizabeth). Co***ne was used to rid of headaches, fatigue, constipation, asthma, nausea, and impotence (Palmermo, Elizabeth).
