The Rescue Mission of Trenton We feed those who are hungry, house those who are homeless, and provide life-changing opportunities. “Look into the eyes of someone who is struggling.

See their pain. And I also ask that you see their potential.”
- Mary Gay Abbott-Young, Chief Executive Officer, The Mission

We stand on the shoulders of those who, over a century ago, saw the crucial need to create The Shelter for anyone in our community who was hungry, homeless, and needing help to get back on their feet. Since then, with compassion, respect a

nd trust, we have been here, around-the-clock, every day-of-the-year – helping those who have nowhere else to turn. The Shelter is where our work began. Then, over the years, The Mission has evolved to bring our community closer together in five distinct, yet interconnected and vital ways:
- The Shelter
- Behavioral Health Center
- Vocational Development
- Supportive Housing
- Thrift Store

Whenever someone knocks on our shelter’s door, all we ask are just two questions: “What’s your name?” and “Are you hungry?”

Then, over a shared meal, our dedicated and talented staff help each homeless individual start to map out a path for “What’s next?”

Last year, 1,018 individuals knocked on our Shelter’s door, who stayed with us for over 38,005 nights, and were served over 71,992 meals. Each individual is offered a full range of professional case management services, without consideration of ability to pay, including healthcare, behavioral health counseling, addiction treatment, financial assistance – and last year we were able to help 153 previously homeless individuals obtain housing. We are keenly aware that behind each of those stark numbers is a very personal story. Our ultimate goal is to help put an end to homelessness – one person at a time.

On April 11, 2026, the F3 Group of Princeton (F3 stands for Fitness, Fellowship, and Faith) marked its 7th Anniversary with a day rooted in purpose and service at West Windsor Community Park, as ninety-two men from across the region—traveling from Idaho to Pennsylvania and throughout New Jersey—coming together not only for fitness and fellowship, but to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

As part of their anniversary celebration, the group assembled a total of 100 men’s hygiene kits that will support individuals served by the Rescue Mission of Trenton.

Thank you, F3 Princeton, for dedicating your anniversary celebration to serving the most vulnerable of our community. We're grateful you chose to partner with us in the mission we both share to restore hope and dignity in the lives of those who have nowhere else to turn. 🙏🤝🎉

On March 25th, TCNJ Bonner Community Scholars put compassion into action by partnering with The Mission to host a Pop-Up Pantry at Unity Park. The event resulted in the distribution of 200 food bags to Trenton residents (30 of these bags contained baby items to serve families.)❗🙏

Thank you, TCNJ Bonner, for helping to further extend the impact of our mission into the Trenton Community.

We’re thrilled about this partnership!

On April 7, we were honored to host Senator Andy Kim at The Rescue Mission of Trenton!

Having leadership on the ground in Trenton listening to the needs of our community means so much as we fight to ensure recent funding cuts do not stop us from providing life-saving services.

We deeply appreciate Senator Kim for his commitment to championing our fight to continue providing life-changing opportunities to our community's most vulnerable populations: the hungry, the homeless, and those seeking recovery.

Recently, Andrew celebrated his completion of the Mission’s New Direction program during a commencement ceremony where he spoke to his family and peers about his commitment to improving his life.

“My meaning in life has more purpose now,” Andrew said as he looked at his children in the crowd. “The time to stand idle and stand silent is over. Getting active in my recovery and investing deeply in myself is the most important steps in a new direction.”

David has struggled with substance use periodically throughout his life. Stretches of sobriety were sometimes followed by relapses, but he always managed to get back on track. His most recent relapse was triggered by a traumatic accident, which David now realizes that he was ill-prepared to deal with.

With the Rescue Mission of Trenton’s substance use disorder treatment program, David understands that he needed the tools – like a network of peer support, a strong relationship with God, and other resources – to help cope with the trauma in a way that did not jeopardize his recovery.

“With faith and perseverance, I can rebuild myself from the ground up,” David said.

When David completes the program, he plans to return to his career as a truck driver, to his loving family and to a fresh start.

“I will return to who I was at my best, with the new belief in myself,” David said. “I want to be a role model for my kids, my family; I want to inspire other addicts, reduce stigma, and encourage others. I know I can break the cycle and create a legacy of love and hope for my family.”

Meeting people where they are; that is the philosophy of our Mobile Outreach Unit. Six days a week, our outreach team is delivering critical services and basic necessities to our unsheltered population. Whether it is offering food and coffee, distributing hygiene kits and harm reduction tools, or connecting clients with mental health and addiction treatment, we are supporting those most in need and ensuring that they are cared for, no matter what.
