💜 We’re incredibly grateful to Bob & Carrie Arnold, who have made a generous $10,000 matching gift to support Safe Place Parking!

Bob and Carrie took the time to learn more about Safe Place Parking and drove by the lot to see the program for themselves. They were amazed by the number of vehicles using the lot and wanted to help.

Now, they're inviting our community to join them.

Every dollar donated will be matched, up to $10,000!

We’ve already secured approximately $30,000 toward our $60,000 goal. Help us get the rest of the way there!

💔 The reality of experiencing homelessness is so much more complicated than the commentary we often see on social media or hear in passing.

🏠 A person experiencing homelessness may be navigating significant barriers, a personal or family crisis, poverty, trauma, disability, unsafe living conditions, or the process of coping with and healing from harm. Often, there are multiple factors intersecting at once.

🪞 Understanding homelessness requires us to look beyond assumptions about how someone got there and instead ask what barriers they are facing, what support they need, and what pathways to stability might actually look like for them.

🗨 An important conversation for our community to have with compassion, context, and a willingness to understand the realities people are experiencing.

From the article:
“What you’ll see is we have all these people who just can’t afford basic needs or can’t afford their current housing, and they’re one bad event from becoming street homeless ... If we don’t have any kind of homeless prevention or diversion programming to stop that from happening, you’re just increasing the bottleneck that we have at our crisis response system, which we don’t have enough of already, right? So it’s really a tough environment across the country, but in particular in a lot of our rural counties.” — Ryan Graham, homeless systems manager for the Wisconsin Balance of State Continuum of Care

1,200 people face homelessness in Northeast Wisconsin — a number experts say is severely undercounted.

Slowing down to be together on the land, pausing in nature, making kanastohale (cornbread), giving ourselves time to reflect, and connecting to our senses helps fill our cups so that we can pour into our work.

✨🚗 The need for Safe Place Parking is ongoing.

🎤 This morning, Spectrum News shared the story of Safe Place Parking and the people who rely on it for something many of us take for granted: a safe place to sleep.

Before finding Safe Place Parking, one participant had to park at places like Walmart and the YMCA. She described the constant uncertainty of waking up and wondering, “Where am I gonna park tonight?”

Safe Place Parking is a community response that answers the question and fills the gap.

Each night, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., people living in their vehicles have a safe, monitored place to park, with access to electricity, Wi-Fi, and bathrooms while they work toward greater stability and permanent housing.

And the need is growing. Last year, 437 vehicles used the lot, and for the first time, we reached our full capacity of 46 spaces. Fifteen percent of participants had children, and 40% reported having a disability. Many have experience abuse or harm in their lifetime.

We set a goal of raising $60,000 to help sustain Safe Place Parking. With just a few days left in our summer campaign, every gift helps us keep this lifeline open.

❤️ Help keep the lot open. Help keep a safe place available.
