Through it all, our mission has remained to "Build a community that promotes animal welfare through compassionate services to animals and people" The Humane Society of Central Texas (HSCTX) has embarked on an exciting new chapter after separating from the Waco Animal Shelter. While we no longer manage shelter outcomes, we remain committed to promoting animal welfare and will be announcing future plans in the coming months.

🚌🐾 In exactly one week, we’ll be preparing to transport around 40 cats to one of our rescue partners up North!

Opportunities like this are lifesaving. Not only will these cats have a better chance of finding homes more quickly, but it also helps free up local resources so we can continue helping more cats here in Central Texas, especially as kitten season continues to hit hard.

As we prepare for transport, we are asking for donations of small to medium-sized crates. So while many of you are gearing up for a 3-day weekend, take a moment to check your garages, closets, and storage areas for crates you may no longer need!

Don’t have crates to donate? You can still help by sponsoring a “bus pass” for a freedom ride north! 🐱💛 Transporting animals to rescue partners is incredible, but it also comes with significant costs including:
✔️ Veterinary care
✔️ Interstate health certificates
✔️ Van rental
✔️ Labor costs
✔️ Transport supplies
We are currently seeking $50 “bus pass” sponsors to help cover the cost for each cat making the trip but donations of any amount make a huge difference.

🐾✨ From surviving the streets… to living his best life in Colorado. ✨🐾

We first met Marvel back in April of 2025 after he was rescued from the streets of Marlin. He was only a puppy, but even then, you could tell that Marvel and his siblings had spent their short lives focused only on survival.

Marvel was quick to make friends with other animals… humans, though, were a different story. Trust did not come easily for him. Throughout his time in our foster program, Marvel bounced between several foster homes all filled with people willing to move at his pace, earn his trust, and cheer him on every step of the way. Slowly but surely, Marvel built an entire army of supporters rooting for him.

And once you earned his trust? Marvel was the sweetest companion. Sadly, despite how special he was, the perfect home just wasn’t being found locally. So when a rescue partner stepped up and offered to take him in, we were absolutely ecstatic. Marvel quickly received glowing reviews with his new rescue… and before long, he was adopted. 💛

We are so incredibly proud of Marvel and so grateful he was given this opportunity which would not have been possible without our community, our fosters, and our rescue partners working together.

Marvel’s story is such a powerful reminder of why fostering matters. It changes lives. It gives animals the time, patience, safety, and support they need to become who they were always meant to be.

It's not even just raining puppies and kittens anymore... it's like... torrential downpour 😅

Another successful transport roadtrip in the books 🐾🚌

This past Monday, we transported 23 dogs & puppies up to their new home rescue in Illinois!

Transporting animals to rescue partners is a vital part of our lifesaving mission. Texas is inundated with animals that have no place to go. The more animals we can transfer out of state, the more animals we are able to help right here in the Heart of Texas. ❤ We are so grateful to our partners that make this possible and take in our beloved Texas dogs and cats. 🫶

However, we are just as grateful (if not more!) for the people in our community that help us do what we do. OUR FOSTERS! As a foster-based rescue, we absolutely rely on fosters to keep pets safe & loved until they find the best path forward.

This summer, our goal is to expand our foster base by 50% so that our capacity for lifesaving can grow as well. Not only that, this summer we are participating in Pedigree Foundation's Foster50 challenge... with grant opportunities up to $100k 🙀 A grant opportunity like that could be revolutionary for our foster program and all the animals still in need!

This past week a couple of our staff (Carmen and Sarah) had the incredible opportunity to attend the Best Friends Animal Society National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. 🧡🐾

Conferences like these are a huge resource to organizations and animal welfare professionals. Coming together to brainstorm, learn, connect, and find innovative solutions to the issues we all face every day is imperative to moving our field forward both in our own community and nationwide.

We are very excited to be back home so that we can implement some of what we learned. We have always had some big dreams for the Humane Society of Central Texas, but now we have more resources in our toolkit to set the foundation and turn those dreams into reality.

We are so looking forward to all that is to come so that we can continue in our mission of building a community the promotes animal welfare by providing compassionate services to pets and people. 💙❤️🩶

❤ Side note: We got to see a few former HSCTX employees that have gone on to thrive in their new journeys. 🥹

Paige & August with Fairytales and Tiny Tails Rescue in Ohio have been doing incredible things with their neonatal kitten rescue. We couldn't be more proud of them! If you know anyone in the Columbus area who wants to get involved (or adopt!), please direct them to FTTR. 🫂

We also got to see Kate (we don't have photo proof 😭) with Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. Kate has been kicking butt and taking names with all the lifesaving she's done at WILCO (no surprise there, she's incredible!). We also couldn't be more proud of her! 💪🐾

This summer we are participating in the Pedigree Foundation's Foster50 challenge for the first time as a foster-based rescue 🤩

The Foster50 challenge is a program designed to increase pet fostering all across the U.S. with an opportunity for shelters and rescues to receive $20,000 in grant funding!

Fostering is an essential, life-saving pre- or post-shelter intervention that helps ease the strain on overburdened shelter systems. Fostering is also vital to the wellbeing of the animals in need. The difference in quality of life between shelter life and foster life is STARK as we have seen time & time again.

This summer, join us as we emphasize the importance of fostering an animal in need in our community. Our goal is to expand our foster program even further so that we can change MORE lives (including yours!). 💛🐾

This morning we stopped by Pet Circle Regional Animal Center and snatched up a Top 10 longest resident, Sundance! ☀️💃

Sundance has been at the shelter since August of 2025. She is one of MANY pups at the shelter that are in need of a foster or adopter. The shelter is FULL, FULL, FULL and they need your help TODAY! There are so many amazing dogs just waiting for their chance (we'll post more pics in the comments!).

There's lot of pups we met today that we would also like to give their freedom ride to but that means we need more dedicated foster homes. Even though Eddy is ✨thriving✨ in his foster home, this sweet guy is STILL looking for a home of his own! We can't believe this goofball hasn't found his people yet.

Eddy is about a year & a half old and has been in our foster program for nearly 2 months without much interest. 😭

He does perfect around dogs of all sizes & will play with anyone, but he's also super happy to curl up on the couch & nap with you. He's even cat friendly! Eddy will keep the whole family entertained. ❤

🐶🐱 It's seriously raining puppies and kittens, yall.

We are in need of some supplies and would be forever grateful if you all could assist us in stocking up our supply closet for current foster babies & all those to come.

When a staff member goes to dinner after a long day of microchipping & vaccinating dogs... then comes across a box labeled free with a tiny spicy kitten inside... what's another foster anyways?😅

Meet ElCon (can you guess where he was found?🤣). It didn't take long for ElCon to sweeten up after realizing that the indoor life was the one for him! He's going to be one spoiled kitty one day... he won't allow for anything different (lol).

Now that we're in a new office space, every day is bring your foster to work day and ElCon is LOVING IT 🤪 He even tucked himself into the heated electric blanket all on his own.

He's not quite ready for adoption, but we just wanted to share some CUTE photos with you all. He'll be ready in a few weeks!
