Through it all, our mission has remained to "Build a community that promotes animal welfare through compassionate services to animals and people" The Humane Society of Central Texas (HSCTX) has embarked on an exciting new chapter after separating from the Waco Animal Shelter. While we no longer manage shelter outcomes, we remain committed to promoting animal welfare and will be announcing future plans in the coming months.

Nimbus put on his fanciest bowtie to dress to impress his future family. 🥹🎀

He's a handsome adult gentleman who is 100% perfect in every way. Snaggletooth and all. 🥰 We personally think the little snaggletooth makes him even more handsome, but we might be biased.

Nimbus is cat friendly, dog friendly, and kid friendly. He loves attention and cuddles from anyone & everyone. Toys & catnip? Also on his list of faves. He's honestly really easy to please and will make his future family very happy. Nimbus is THE best!

☕🐾 The Coffee Crew is officially ready to find their forever homes!

You might remember Chai, Beans, Brew, and Breve from last month when we introduced these four tiny pups who came to us in pretty rough shape. They were covered in fleas, sores, and scars, and needed some serious TLC.

Well, LOOK AT THEM NOW! 😍

After weeks of good food, medical care, and lots of love from their amazing foster, these little coffee beans are healthy, happy, and officially available for foster to adopt! 🎉

Their only sister, Breve, is already on a trial adoption (paws crossed for our girl 🤞), which means the three brothers are still looking for their people!

☕ Chai, Beans & Brew are all male Pit Bull mixes with BIG personalities. They're playful, rambunctious, and absolutely love a good wrestling match. 😂

These boys are dog and cat friendly and ready to bring a whole lot of puppy energy and entertainment to their future families!

And the best part? ALL THREE BOYS WILL BE AT THE WACO FARMERS MARKET TOMORROW! 🐾

Come by our booth, get some puppy snuggles, and meet the Coffee Crew in person. Who knows, you might just leave with your newest family member! 💛

[placement found, thank yall so much!!!]

💔 Beau is unfortunately back with us.

You might remember the large depopulation case we assisted with back in July. Beau was one of the dogs who came into our care, and he was also one of the shyest of the bunch.

After everything he'd been through, we knew Beau needed a patient, understanding home where he could decompress and learn to trust people at his own pace. We thought we'd found just that. 💛

At first, we received some wonderful updates and were so happy to see Beau settling in. But after more than two months in his adoptive home, we received a text this morning letting us know he was being returned.

And now Beau is back with us, hanging out in our office with no plan.

Through no fault of his own, Beau is once again looking for a family. Or even a foster home where he can land while we find the right fit.

🐾 A little about Beau:

- He's an estimated 1–2 yr old long-haired Dachshund mix.
- He's friendly with both cats and dogs but would need a calm household with laid back human and furry housemates.
- He's shy and needs people who understand that trust takes time. He may not be your best friend on day one, and that's okay!

Beau has already been through so many changes in his short life. We're really hoping his next stop is where he can finally settle in for good and never have to start over again.

🐾 Well, Libby's big debut is going to have to wait a few days… 😂

We were planning to introduce Libby and announce that she's ready to find her forever family, but apparently she made a new friend yesterday who wasn't quite as excited to meet her. 🐝

Her foster noticed that Libby's face was pretty swollen and suspected she'd been stung or bitten by something. After a trip to the vet yesterday, we thankfully confirmed it was just a sting, and her swelling is already going down!

If nothing else, this little incident tells you a lot about Libby. She's curious, friendly, and apparently still learning that not everyone wants to be her friend. 😅

Now, a little more about her!

🐾 Libby is a 4.5 month old German Shorthaired Pointer mix who is as smart as she is cute!
💛 She's incredibly eager to please and already learning so much. She's still working on potty training, but we think she'll catch on soon.
🐶 She loves other dogs and would be happy to have a canine friend!
🐱 When she met some cats, she was actually a little intimidated and preferred to keep her distance.
👧 She's also great with kids!

Libby just needs a few more days to recover from her unfortunate encounter with nature, and then she'll be ready for her next adventure!

Check out this sweet boy, Nimbus 🥰

This guy is still in need of a foster or, even better, an adopter! He truly is the sweetest cat and wants all the love & affection. He has a bit of a wonky jaw & a snaggletooth due to an old injury (now completely healed) but it doesn't affect his ability to eat or drink. It adds character is all!

🐱 We’ve got four cats who need somewhere to land!

Being a foster-based rescue means we typically don’t have cats hanging out at our office, but right now these four are here and looking for somewhere else to land. A foster home would be wonderful, but an ADOPTER would be even better! 👀🏡

🐾 Virginia is the surprise mama cat we took in last week. She is as sweet as can be and loves people, but she’ll need slow, patient introductions with other animals.

🐾 Nimbus joined us yesterday and is an absolute HAM. He has an old jaw injury that healed a little wonky, but the vet says he’s just fine. Now he simply has a crooked little smile to add to his charm. 😂

🐾 Boba & Matcha are about 4.5 months old and looking for new foster homes or, even better, forever homes! Boba is the more outgoing of the two and ready for her next adventure. Matcha is a little more reserved and will need some time to decompress and get comfortable with new people, but both girls are incredibly sweet. 💛

🐾 HOW is Leia still available?! 🐾

You might remember our post about the giant pile of black kittens looking for homes back in June. There was one little black & white kitten mixed into the bunch, and that was Leia! 🖤🤍

Well... all of her siblings have found their forever homes, and somehow Leia is still waiting.

Honestly, we thought she would be one of the first adopted. She was the only black & white kitten in the litter AND had one of the biggest personalities. Apparently we jinxed her. 😭

Now about 7 months old, Leia is playful, social, and more than ready for a family of her own. She does great with both cats and dogs, loves playing with her toys, and takes finding the absolute best sleeping spots in the house very seriously.

She’s watched all her siblings head off to their forever homes, so we think it’s officially Leia’s turn. 💛

☕🐾 Meet Chai, Brew, Beans & Breve! 🐾☕

These four tiny pups came to us weighing only about 3 pounds each and covered in some of the worst fleas we’ve seen on puppies this small. They were covered in sores, scars, and it was pretty clear they hadn’t known much comfort before finding their way to us. Thankfully, an amazing foster stepped up and gave all four a safe, soft place to begin getting healthy.

And it hasn’t been completely smooth sailing. Last week, one of the pups became very sick with a severe case of coccidia and needed a trip to urgent care. Thankfully, she’s doing SO much better now! 💛

With good food, veterinary care, and a whole lot of love from their foster, these babies are already looking like completely different puppies. Their care has also added up quickly between urgent care, medications, vaccines, preventatives, and everything they’ll still need before adoption. If you’d like to help us recoup some of what we’ve already spent and cover their continued care, we would be incredibly grateful for any donation toward these four little coffee beans. ☕ Every few dollars helps us keep saying yes when puppies like these need us.

They still have a little more healing and growing to do before they’ll be available for pre-adoption, but their foster has already learned that they have VERY different personalities. 😂
👑 Breve: A perfect princess who has never done anything wrong in her entire life. She also does not understand why boys insist on playing so rough.
💛 Chai: The lover boy. His preferred strategy is staring deeply into your soul with adoring eyes until you finally pick him up.
😎 Brew: Too cool for school with a suspicious case of selective hearing. He firmly believes rough play is his God-given right, regardless of his siblings’ opinions.
🫘 Beans: Fully in his own little world. He’s shy with people and loves other dogs, his bed is his prized possession, and he WILL file a formal complaint if you put him to bed alone.

For now, these four are focused on getting healthy, gaining weight, and learning just how good life can be. We’ll let everyone know when they’re ready for the next step. 💛🐾

[Placement found for Mayo but still needed for Mama Cat!]
🐱 Well… yesterday did not go according to plan...

Yesterday turned into an unexpectedly busy intake day for us! As a foster-based rescue, we typically don’t bring an animal into our program until we have a foster home lined up. But sometimes animals have other plans, and we ended the day with two surprise cats who now need foster homes. 😅

🤍 Meet Mayo!
Mayo was found dehydrated in a parking lot near our office. After some time hanging out with us in the AC, he’s doing great and has proven to be SO sweet. We estimate him to be around 10 months old, and he’s scheduled to be neutered tomorrow, which means he’ll also be available for adoption very soon! We’re still getting to know him, but so far, he’s been a pretty easy guy to love.

🐾 And then there’s our surprise tabby girl…
We were helping a community member with an unexpected litter of kittens. When the kittens arrived to us, we discovered their mama in the carrier too. 😅 Mom wasn’t part of the original plan, but she’s here now, and we’re going to make sure she gets the care she needs.

We estimate her to be around 1–2 years old, she has been incredibly sweet, and we’ll be getting her spay scheduled soon.

So now we need some help finding a soft place to land for these two kitties! 💛
