In this week's meeting, we got to hear an icebreaker speech. An icebreaker speech is the first speech that someone does when they join Toastmasters; they get to choose the topic, and it often means the club learns something (or many things) about them that they didn't know before. It's a favorite!

Our Toastmaster this week shared tips for telling a compelling story, and both of our speakers shared vivid stories of their own--from communication snafus to camping mishaps. Our meeting theme changes each week at the discretion of the Toastmaster--you never know what you're going to get, and that makes it all the more rewarding.

This week, a member practiced a story they'd love to tell on a MOTH stage one day, and we can't wait to see them do it. Being able to deliver a story in a way that moves audiences is the essence of why we all show up week after week.

This week's meeting theme was failure--and specifically, the opportunities that come about *because* things don't go according to plan. We heard a motivating speech about persistence, and members shared their own fails-turned-wins. It was an inspiring meeting, all around!

This week's meeting theme was "the courage to begin again." No matter what you're beginning, it's admirable to have the courage to do so!

Speeches run the gamut at Toastmasters. Today's meeting was a good example of that: One speech was a gripping story about being on an airplane when it was struck by lightning (!) and another speech was informational, sharing different frameworks for evaluations. No matter the type of speaking, there's a place for it at Toastmasters.

In today's meeting, one member rehearsed a speech she'll give at an event next week, and another member gave a speech he put together last night. Whether you're putting the final touches on a presentation or practicing something for the first time, Toastmasters is a welcome place to do it.
