When it comes to the "lab dog" trade, Marshall BioResources is a big story—but it's far from the whole story.

Public records reveal a much larger pipeline moving dogs between breeders, dealers, laboratories, universities, and other research institutions across the U.S.

We’ve begun mapping that network to show where dogs are coming from, where they’re being sent, and how some move from one institution to another.

The map is still growing. But even this partial picture makes one thing clear: the system that supplies dogs for research extends far beyond any single breeder.

Sanctuary is about much more than getting animals out of laboratories. It’s about caring for them for the rest of their lives.

At Chimp Haven, caregivers noticed when Pierre—a chimpanzee rescued from a New York research lab—began withdrawing from his group and struggling to navigate his surroundings.

They discovered that cataracts were taking his sight. And then they found a way to give it back.
