The Bishop is the chief ecumenical officer of the synod. As such she gets invited to participate in various ecumenical events or initiates them this was a lovely week, not only of our joint commemoration Bible study honoring the Emanuel nine but also participating in the United Methodist annual conference, including laying on of hands at ordinations.

For the commemoration of the Emmanuel 9, over 100 Lutherans and African Methodist Episcopalians joined together for a powerful night of lament, prayer, Bible study, fellowship and a recommitment to standing together for justice and peace in the world.

Rev. M. David Fetter, Jr. died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 9, 2026. We remember David's family and friends in our prayers and trust that the promise of the Resurrection is true and sure.

Bishop Briner enjoyed a weekend with the saints- Fuerst at the memorial service for Arturo Vasquez and then with the great folks at Martin Luther Coletoville

Pastor Ricardo and Brother Chris has spent several days in the Rio Grande Valley meeting with community leaders, residents and clergy to learn about the stories and beauty of the Valley, and how we can strengthen our accompaniment as the Lutheran church in such an important and sacred region.

Bishop Sue serves on the board of Refuge. They continue to do amazing work with new Americans, whether they’ve just come or whether they’ve been here a while they’ve managed to pivot through multiple administrations and multiple changes and they continue in their mission to serve.
