A Fun-Filled National Nursing Home Week at TSVH Murfreesboro!

Residents and staff at Tennessee State Veterans Home – Murfreesboro enjoyed an unforgettable National Nursing Home Week in May, packed with exciting activities, laughter, and plenty of friendly competition!

From a bubbly Foam Party that had everyone smiling to a nostalgic Decades Day celebration featuring favorite fashions, music, and memories from years gone by, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Residents and staff embraced the spirit of the week by celebrating the decades that shaped their lives and service.

One of the week's biggest highlights was the spirited Staff Hot Dog Eating Contest, where team members showed off their competitive side and kept residents entertained with lots of laughs and cheers. The event brought the entire TSVH family together for a memorable time of fun and fellowship.

National Nursing Home Week is a special opportunity to celebrate the residents we are honored to serve and the dedicated staff who make our homes such vibrant communities. Thank you to everyone who helped make this week so meaningful and memorable!

Patriotism, History & Community at TSVH Knoxville!

During National Nursing Home Week in May, residents at Tennessee State Veterans Home – Knoxville enjoyed a special Patriotic Day celebration filled with honor, remembrance, and camaraderie.

A highlight of the day was a visit from the 501st WWII Living History Museum, whose members brought history to life through authentic displays, uniforms, equipment, and engaging stories from the World War II era. Residents had the opportunity to share memories, ask questions, and connect with living historians who are dedicated to preserving the legacy of our nation's Greatest Generation.

Events like these provide meaningful opportunities for our veterans to reflect on their service, celebrate their shared experiences, and enjoy the fellowship of their community.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Musicians On Call!

We are incredibly grateful to Musicians On Call (MoC) for the many ways they brought the healing power of music to the Tennessee State Veterans Homes family throughout the month of May.

Thanks to their generosity, MoC coordinated the donation of 400 Luke Combs concert tickets for our employees across all TSVH locations to attend his show at Neyland Stadium. The excitement and appreciation from our team was overwhelming, and the photos they shared from their unforgettable experience say it all!

As if that wasn't enough, MoC also invited residents and staff from our Murfreesboro home to be VIP guests at their Music Heals Live Gala. The incredible event honored Reba McEntire and featured special guests Vince Gill and Wynonna Judd, making it an unforgettable evening of music and inspiration.

Our residents and staff were thrilled to attend and even had the opportunity to reconnect with our friend Charles Esten, who brought so much joy to our residents during his visit and performance at our facility back in January.

Music has a unique ability to heal, uplift, and connect people, and Musicians On Call continues to make that impact in extraordinary ways. Their kindness and commitment to serving others have created memories that will be cherished for years to come.

Words simply can't express our gratitude. Thank you, Musicians On Call, for all you do to bring comfort, hope, and healing through music.

Nursing Home Week Was in Full Bloom!

May's Nursing Home Week in Clarksville was filled with fun, creativity, and community spirit! Residents enjoyed painting beautiful flowers, singing along to wonderful performances by the Kenwood Middle School Choir and Rick-Tony-Danny (ReTireD), and sharing lots of laughs during exciting games and activities.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make the week so special. The smiles, music, and memories made it a celebration to remember!

A Historic Milestone in Healthcare for Tennessee Veterans and Their Families

On June 4, 2026, Governor Bill Lee ceremonially signed HB 1913 / SB 2199, marking a transformational moment for Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes (TSVH) and the veterans we are honored to serve.

This landmark legislation expands TSVH’s authority beyond traditional Long-Term Skilled Nursing Care and Short-Term Rehabilitation, paving the way for a broader continuum of care that will allow Tennessee veterans to receive support throughout every stage of aging and recovery. Future service lines may include Adult Day Care, Outpatient Rehabilitation, Home Health Care and Assisted Living.

For decades, TSVH has delivered exceptional care to Tennessee veterans. This legislation represents the next chapter in that mission—creating opportunities to provide more comprehensive, veteran-centered services while helping veterans remain independent, connected to their communities, and supported closer to home.

This legislation is not simply about adding services—it is about creating a future where Tennessee veterans have access to a seamless continuum of care from an organization that understands their unique needs and honors their service.

TSVH extends its sincere appreciation to Governor Lee, legislative leaders, veteran advocates, and all those who worked tirelessly to make this achievement possible. Together, we are building a stronger future for Tennessee veterans—one that ensures they receive the care, dignity, and support they have earned through their service to our nation.

Congressman David Kustoff Tours Future Tennessee State Veterans’ Home in Arlington

Executive Director Ed Harries and Tennessee State Veterans’ Homes (TSVH) staff were honored to welcome Congressman David Kustoff for a tour of our Arlington, Tennessee facility, which is set to open in the near future.

Joining Congressman Kustoff were Monte Belew, Senior Advisor; Wright Ricketts, Chief of Staff; and Billy Masters, Special Assistant. We were also pleased to welcome Arlington Mayor Mike Wissman.

The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the progress being made at the new home and discuss the positive impact it will have on veterans and their families throughout West Tennessee. We appreciate the continued support of our elected officials and community leaders as we prepare to open our doors and serve those who have served our nation.

Nursing Home Week Memories: Furry Friends & Smiles All Around!

During National Nursing Home Week in May, our residents and staff across several of our locations enjoyed some extra-special visitors with four legs, feathers, and plenty of love to share!

From cuddly puppies and gentle farm animals to unique animal encounters, these special visits brought joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments to everyone involved. The smiles on our residents' faces said it all as they spent time petting, feeding, and connecting with these wonderful animals.

At our facilities, we know that meaningful experiences like these create lasting memories and brighten lives. We're grateful to everyone who helped make Nursing Home Week such a success and to the amazing animals that brought comfort, companionship, and plenty of fun along the way.

A Berry Good Victory!

The Tennessee State Veterans Home – Humboldt is proud to share that we took home 1st Place in the Golf Cart Division at the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Parade for the second year in a row!

Our residents and team rolled through the parade in style with an impressive tank-themed golf cart that turned heads and captured hearts. This back-to-back win is a testament to the creativity, teamwork, and spirit that make our home such a special place.

We had a berry good time celebrating with our community, and we're honored to be part of a berry good place to be here in Humboldt!

Congratulations to everyone who helped bring this award-winning creation to life, and thank you to the West Tennessee Strawberry Festival for another wonderful event in May.

It's been a crazy, wonderfully busy time at all of our Tennessee State Veterans' Homes facilities, and before any more time gets away from us, Murfreesboro is sending a much overdue THANK YOU to Middle Tennessee State University's School of Concrete and Construction Management and Smyrna Ready Mix!

Several weeks ago, these incredible community partners helped create a much-needed outdoor space where our residents can relax, visit with one another, and enjoy watching the traffic roll by. Smyrna Ready Mix generously donated the concrete, while Professor and CIM Director Jon Huddleston instructed MTSU students as they installed a brand-new concrete pad.

Not only do our residents love the finished product, but they thoroughly enjoyed "supervising" the installation from start to finish! Watching the students at work and seeing the project come together provided plenty of entertainment and conversation along the way.

We are so grateful to Smyrna Ready Mix, Professor Huddleston, and the talented MTSU students for their generosity, hard work, and commitment to supporting Tennessee's veterans. The new space has already become a favorite gathering spot and will be enjoyed for years to come.

Thank you for helping us create a place where our heroes can sit back, relax, and enjoy the outdoors.
