If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Barker House and Homestead, nestled within the 30 acre old growth forest of Barker Woods, you won’t want to miss this exciting event! On Wednesday, October 28th, we’ll host our Barker Seasonal Forum: A Sense Sublime, by welcoming special guest, Glory June Greiff, to perform “A Sense Sublime: Poems & Prose of Nature and Spirituality “

After our walk through the forest, listen to dramatic readings from the English Romantics and the American Transcendentalists, as well as Aldo Leopold, Gene Stratton-Porter, and Robin Wall Kimmerer. Explore with others through small group conversations what these poets and writers have to say about the wonder of nature and connection to the Infinite. A special thank you to the Gateway Arch Park Foundation and Gateway Arch National Park for hosting us and Indiana Dunes National Park personnel to share the story and impacts behind the transformational CityArchRiver Project. We loved learning about the fundraising, partnerships, and project management that brought this incredible vision to life.

We’re grateful for your hospitality, candid advice, and generosity in sharing lessons learned. We left inspired and excited to bring those insights to our own work to support Indiana Dunes National Park!

Save the Dunes was faced with the difficult decision to cancel Jammin with Save the Dunes on September 19th, but our appreciation for our incredible event sponsors remains. We want to shine another spotlight on them, as their commitment and unwavering support mean so much to our organization. Their early commitment and generous support were instrumental in planning the event, and their partnership remains invaluable to Save the Dunes.

PLANT-Porter/LaPorte County Advancing Natives Team's W**d Wrangle is this Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. at the Frame Little Calumet Conservation Area in Michigan City. We'll meet in the grassy field just north of 1286 N County Line Rd, Michigan City, IN 46360.

Join us and our partners at the Izaak Walton League of America, Porter County Chapter, for this hands-on morning removing invasive plants and helping improve habitat for native plants, birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. No prior experience is needed—we’ll provide guidance and tools! See the attached flyer for more details.

What to bring:
• Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots
• Long sleeves and pants
• Work gloves
• Water bottle

This weekend at Save the Dunes HQ-Historic Barker House! We are thrilled to welcome the Lubeznik Center for the Arts' roving exhibit to the Barker House Homestead on Saturday from 11:00AM-2:00PM CST. Join us for an afternoon of hands-on art-making, guided hikes with Shirley Heinze Land Trust, and the opportunity to check out the historic Barker House & Homestead! This event is FREE and open to the public.

We hope to see you there! – Parking at Barker House - 444 Barker Road, Michigan City - is limited. There is available street parking on Cleveland Ave south of Barker Rd., just a short walk from the event.

🐦 A CLEAN FEEDER MEANS HEALTHIER BIRDS! 🌿

Bird feeders bring birds together in one place, but that also means bacteria, mold, old seed and bird waste can build up and contribute to the spread of disease. Regularly cleaning and sanitizing your feeders and birdhouses helps create a healthier, safer place for your backyard visitors.

That’s why we’re teaming up with the Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary for our Clean-A-Feeder fundraiser! For just $5 per feeder or birdhouse, you can have your items professionally cleaned and sanitized while helping support an incredible local organization.

The Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary works to restore and protect local wildlife habitat, provide safe places for migratory birds to rest and feed, and educate our community about conservation. Their restoration work is transforming a former wetland and dump site into a sanctuary for migratory shorebirds, native plants and other wildlife right here in Chesterton.

🐦 Pick up: Saturday, October 17
💵 $5 donation per feeder or birdhouse
🌿 100% of donations benefit the Westchester Migratory Bird Sanctuary
