We are making a conscious effort to share and thank the partners and organizations who help make our mission possible. To date, we have 750+ partner organizations!

Thank you, Mary Ellen Senior Center for your partnership! 20 seniors served, 40 ears added to our mission to reach ONE MILLION EARS!

Now, our Care Team gets to work following up and guiding each senior who needs help with next steps. Insurance navigation, underinsured or those with no coverage. We have pathways to hearing care for everyone!

Our mission began when a little girl named Lexi did not receive a newborn hearing screening. She was skipped that day.

At just 10 weeks old, she finally received a screening. Even though she failed both ears, more JUST WAIT mentalities: “she’s fine. She’s just fussy.”

Additionally, Lexi’s parents were told “come back in 6-9 months.”

The actual standard of care should have been “return in 2-4 weeks.”

At 1 year of age, no language, not responding to any sounds much less a dog barking….seeking a referral for that follow up appointment—-more JUST WAIT from a pediatrician, “Lexi heard the noise in the hallway. Some kids don’t talk until they’re 18 months old.”

That was it for Lexi’s parents. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Upon being seen at Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center in at 14 months old, Lexi FINALLY received a proper hearing test, no more “just wait” and 4 months later she received her cochlear implant surgery, and soon heard a whisper, began learning, spoken language and mainstreamed.

And today at 18, she is thriving as a young adult with cochlear implants. Incredible language, pursuing a career in cosmetology and can communicate with the world around her. She can HEAR the GOBBLES when she turkey hunts.

That is our ONE MILLION EARS VISION:

We are on a MISSION to reach !

Thank you The Ohio State University Farm Science Review for an incredible week and hosting our helping us towards this goal and supporting & free service to over 100,000 attendees and 600+ vendors!

Hearing Loss is the #3 health issue in America. Farmers, Agriculture workers and RURAL America are top groups of people who are the most at-risk living with UNTREATED hearing loss.

We had a great week helping nearly 100 people with
- free hearing screenings
- on-site support and resources
- free hearing protection
- technology demos

Our work doesn’t stop there. Today, every person served will receive personalized follow up information based on their results and additional concerns (tinnitus, etc).

Then, our Care Team Leader & Hearing Loss Advocate Molli Tadlock DeRosa begins calls, emails and 1-on-1 support for each person helping with:
- insurance evaluations
- clinic selection
- appointment prep/questions to ask the audiologist
- device support and lifestyle considerations
- telehealth options for under-insured or uninsured
- veteran/VA navigation

#1 thing we hear?
“I don’t trust the TV ads & have felt stuck. You were meant to be here for me, today.”

We go above and beyond and our goal is to help people feel EDUCATED, EMPOWERED & READY TO ACT.

Our ONE MILLION EARS movement: AWARENESS + ACCESS + ACTION.

Day 1 of The Ohio State University Farm Science Review was a huge success serving and giving free hearing screenings, hearing loss resources, tinnitus education & much more to farmers & their families throughout the Midwest.

Once the rain stopped, we served over 40 people in just three hours!

We continually hear the following:
Number ONE thing we hear:
“My wife says I’m not hearing well, so I guess it’s time we find out.”

Wife…“or if it’s selective hearing.” 😉😉

Also….
“What can you do about this ringing in my ears?” (Tinnitus)

“I have hearing aids, but they don’t work well & I don’t wear them.”
- we counsel on follow up ANNUAL checkups with their audiologist for programming updates. Often they haven’t seen their audiologist in years.

- we also counsel on “when hearing aids are no longer enough” and have them take the hearing screening with both their hearing aids on and then with them off. Then, discuss and share a technology demo of a cochlear implant.

“This is really cool because I’ve never had a hearing test. Glad to know my hearing is normal!”

- we counsel on how to keep their hearing healthy!!

When founder Jaime Motes returns from each event, she reviews results for communications and follow up. Everyone is assigned a HEARING NUMBER 1-4. 1 being normal & 4 being severe-to-profound & everything in between.

Based on that number, their CARE TEAM journey and communications begin.

Then, Molli Tadlock DeRosa who leads our Care Team begins the follow up, prioritizing Hearing Number 3’s and 4’s who are the most at risk in need care immediately.

Based on her phone calls/emails with each person, they get additional follow up and guidance depending on their next steps and we do that every step of the way and every time they take an action.

Everyone receives very strategic and specific follow up based on THEIR HEARING NUMBER!

We rolled into London, OH The Ohio State University Farm Science Review !! It’s a muddy day, but the weather will clear up.

We are so excited to offer FREE screenings, technology demos and follow up Care Team guidance to such an important audience.

More than 80% of people living with hearing loss have not taken action due to lack of awareness & access to care.

Rural communities, farmers and agricultural workers are some of the most at-risk being regularly exposed to dangerous decibels.

Our three “A’s” have always been:
Awareness. Access. Action.

Join us this week as we share more about this great event, stories and our free services provided to so many who work so hard to keep our families fed.
