We are back with 60 days to go to Launch Canada 2026! McGill Rocket Team is taking its place in the sun this week. Despite an eventful week for the team, their rocket Thorondor mk. II did not make it off of the ground. Nevertheless, the team’s reporting was sufficient to earn 3rd place in the Advanced Launch Category; proof that the hard work the teams put in before launch makes a difference too!

Nous sommes de retour à 60 jours du Launch Canada 2026! Cette semaine, c'est au tour de la McGill Rocket Team de briller. Malgré une semaine mouvementée pour l'équipe, leur fusée Thorondor mk. II n'a pas réussi à décoller. Cependant, le rapport présenté par l'équipe a suffi pour décrocher la 3e place dans la catégorie «Lancement Avancé» ; preuve que le travail acharné fourni par les équipes avant le lancement fait aussi la différence!

Launch Canada had the pleasure of participating in the Moonshot event in Brampton recently. Events like this are an important part of advancing Launch Canada’s mission to grow the rocketry and space sectors across Canada. It is especially vital for Canadian youth and young professionals to experience the range of opportunities that they have in the space industry.

It was also fantastic to see the progress of so many of the teams competing in the Launch Canada Challenge and to reconnect with our partner organizations. Looking forward to seeing you all at Launch Canada 2026!

Launch Canada a eu le plaisir de participer récemment à l’événement Moonshot à Brampton pour promouvoir le développement du secteur de l'espace au Canada. Nous sommes fiers de partager ces moments avec des étudiants et des jeunes professionnels afin qu'ils puissent découvrir l’éventail des opportunités qui s’offrent à eux dans l’industrie spatiale.
Ce fut également fantastique de constater les progrès réalisés par tant d’équipes participant au Launch Canada Challenge et de renouer avec nos organisations partenaires. Au plaisir de vous revoir tous à Launch Canada 2026!

With only 100 days until Launch Canada 2026, we head back to the prairies to visit University of Saskatchewan Space Design Team - USST of the University of Saskatchewan . Their rocket was named “Up” and boy did it live up to that name, soaring to over 16000 ft above the ground. The team had much to celebrate with a successful recovery and their enthusiasm was palpable. The team was in such good spirits that they earned the Spirit Bear award for best team spirit. We can't wait to see what the successor to “Up” will bring!

À 100 jours de Launch Canada 2026, nous retournons dans les Prairies pour rendre visite à l'équipe USST de l'Université de Saskatchewan. Leur fusée, baptisée « Up », a vraiment fait honneur à son nom en s'élevant à plus de 16 000 pieds au-dessus du sol. L'équipe avait de quoi se réjouir grâce à une récupération réussie, et son enthousiasme était palpable... En fait, l'équipe était d'une telle bonne humeur qu'elle a remporté le prix Spirit Bear récompensant le meilleur esprit d'équipe! Nous sommes impatients de découvrir ce que nous réserve le successeur d'« Up »!

Don’t look now but there are only 105 days until Launch Canada 2026! Say hello to McMaster Rocketry Team from McMaster University. The launch of their rocket “Nimbus” added some hardware to the team’s trophy cabinet with a third place finish in the basic launch category but it was the payload that really stood out. “Sparrow” was a suite of cameras that collected footage of the rocket descent and earned top honours in the payload competition. We can’t wait to see what the team deploys this year!

Ferme les yeux et tu ne verras même pas qu'il reste 105 jours avant le Launch Canada 2026! Découvrez l'équipe McMaster Rocketry de l'université McMaster. Le lancement de leur fusée « Nimbus » a permis à l'équipe d'ajouter une nouvelle récompense à son palmarès en décrochant la troisième place dans la catégorie « lancement de base », mais c'est surtout la charge utile qui s'est démarquée. « Sparrow » était un ensemble de caméras qui a filmé la descente de la fusée et a remporté les honneurs dans la compétition des charges utiles. Nous avons hâte de voir ce que l'équipe va déployer cette année!

Calling all (future) judges!

Our judging team is looking for new members to help evaluate the teams competing in the 2026 Launch Canada Challenge. Judges are responsible for scoring the design reports teams submit prior to the launch event as well as scoring the teams during the event itself. If you have an interest in judging the airframes, propulsion systems, avionics, recovery systems, scientific payloads and/or technical development projects that teams have been developing, fill out the form at www.launchcanada.org/volunteer

Rocketry experience is appreciated, but not necessary!

Nous sommes à la recherche de nouveaux membres pour renforcer l'équipe de juges de cette année à Launch Canada 2026.
Les juges sont chargés d'évaluer les équipes de la structure de la fusée jusqu'au système de récupération en passant par l'avionique. Nous avons plein de magnifiques projets à évaluer avant de les envoyer sur les rampes de lancements.

With 110 days to go we are making Launch Canada a true coast-to-coast affair as we visit Dalhousie University 's DalRocketry! It was their first time competing in the Launch Canada challenge 2025 and they showed up in style, waiting until the very last day of launches to arrive at the launchsite, set their rocket up, and launch the aptly named “Bluenose Mk II.” This efficiency extended to their basecamp as the team placed their setup area as close to the exit as they could, and miles away from everyone else earning them the Castaway award.

À 110 jours de l'échéance, nous faisons de Launch Canada un véritable événement d'un océan à l'autre en rendant visite à l'équipe DalRocketry de l'université Dalhousie ! C'était leur première participation au défi Launch Canada 2025 et ils ont fait une entrée remarquée, attendant le tout dernier jour des lancements pour arriver sur le site, installer leur fusée et lancer celle-ci, judicieusement baptisée « Bluenose Mk II ». Cette efficacité s’est étendue à leur camp de base, l’équipe ayant installé son aire de montage aussi près que possible de la sortie, à des kilomètres de tout le monde, ce qui leur a valu le prix Castaway.

T-115 Days until the Launch Canada Challenge 2026. Staying on the theme of liquid propulsion we are visiting Toronto Metropolitan University’s MACH (Metropolitan Aerospace and Combustion Hub). Unlike the rockets we have seen so far, MACH’s project “SPRINT” stayed (intentionally) firmly planted to the ground, achieving a static fire of the ethanol and nitrous oxide engine. Here’s hoping that this is merely a short burst in the marathon to success for the team!

Plus que 115 jours avant le Launch Canada Challenge 2026. Toujours dans le domaine de la propulsion liquide, nous nous rendons au MACH (Metropolitan Aerospace and Combustion Hub) de l’Université métropolitaine de Toronto. Contrairement aux fusées que nous avons vues jusqu’à présent, le projet « SPRINT » du MACH est resté (volontairement) solidement ancré au sol, réussissant un essai statique du moteur fonctionnant à l’éthanol et à l’oxyde nitreux. Espérons que ce ne soit qu’un petit sprint dans le marathon qui mènera l’équipe vers le succès!

120 days to go! Launch Canada is showcasing the University of Waterloo’s Waterloo Rocketry this week. Their propulsion team has gone above and beyond over the last few years, developing a liquid fueled engine; one of the few teams to have accomplished that feat. Last year’s launch of “Aurora” was the second year the team had launched a liquid rocket, which earned them 2nd place honours in the Advanced Launch category. Along the way they also earned the “Golden Shovel” award for digging holes like no other team could. We all hope the team has less digging planned for 2026!

Plus que 120 jours! Cette semaine, Launch Canada met à l'honneur l'équipe Waterloo Rocketry de l'Université de Waterloo. Au cours des dernières années, son équipe de propulsion s'est surpassée en mettant au point un moteur à propergol liquide; elle fait partie des rares équipes à avoir réussi cet exploit. Le lancement « d'Aurora » l'année dernière marquait la deuxième fois que l'équipe lançait une fusée à propergol liquide, ce qui lui a valu la deuxième place dans la catégorie « Lancement Supérieur». En cours de route, elle a également remporté la « Pelle d'Or » pour avoir creusé des trous comme aucune autre équipe n’a su le faire. Nous espérons tous que l’équipe aura moins de creusage à faire en 2026!

Only 125 days to go until the Launch Canada Challenge! We stay in Ontario to visit York University 's Arbalest Rocketry this week. They have never been worried about shooting for the moon and last year's project "Goose IV" proves it. The team launched this two stage rocket on day 4 of the challenge last year, carrying on board an experiment on bioluminescence. Their science really shone, earning the team 3rd place in the payload category.

Plus que 125 jours avant le Launch Canada Challenge! Nous restons en Ontario pour rendre visite cette semaine à l'équipe Arbalest Rocketry de l'Université York. Ils n'ont jamais hésité à viser la lune, et le projet de l'année dernière, « Goose IV », en est la preuve. L'équipe a lancé cette fusée à deux étages le quatrième jour du défi de l'année dernière, embarquant à son bord une expérience sur la bioluminescence. Leurs travaux scientifiques ont vraiment brillé, ce qui a valu à l'équipe la 3e place dans la catégorie « charge scientifique ».

We are counting down to 130 days until the kickoff of the Launch Canada Challenge. Carleton University (Official)'s CU InSpace set a new standard for themselves after launching “CR22 IV - Quarter Pounder,” the first hybrid powered rocket ever launched by the team. The engine left something to be desired in the eyes, or should we say ears, of the judges though earning CU InSpace the “hearing damage” award for most “unique” sound. We are all looking forward to hearing what the team comes up with for 2026!

Il ne reste plus que 130 jours avant le coup d'envoi du Launch Canada Challenge. L'équipe CU InSpace de l'université Carleton s'est fixé de nouveaux objectifs après avoir lancé « CR22 IV - Quart de Livre », la première fusée à propulsion hybride jamais lancée par l'équipe. Le moteur n'a pas vraiment convaincu les juges, ou plutôt leurs oreilles, mais il a tout de même valu à CU InSpace le prix « des dommages auditifs » pour son son le plus « original ». Nous avons tous hâte de découvrir ce que l'équipe nous réserve pour 2026!
