Attention those who like to sing!!! (Whether you’re just the sing in the shower type, or someone who has sung in choirs before)

My name is Cara, and I want to personally invite you to the open house for the Windward Choral Society on Tuesday, September 15th!

I love to sing and have been singing my whole life, but the good news is that there is no audition required to join. Our director Suzie is incredibly energetic and passionate and is so great at getting everyone to the level where we make truly special music. If you have zero experience singing in a choir, her response is always “Perfect! Come join us!”.

Also, this group is such a wonderful ‘ohana. I was new to the island last fall and attended the open house and was immediately welcomed. I was blown away with how kind everyone was!

So if you’re looking to find a local ‘Ohana and you love to sing, either in the shower or with other people, come join us at open house on September 15th! (Right now we’re rehearsing for Free Concert - A Community Remembrance for the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 but start our regular season September 15th)

We rehearse every Tuesday at Christ Church Uniting in Kailua, from 6:45-9pm. Our Christmas concert this year is December 11th and 13th!

Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The Windward Choral Society invites the community to gather and commemorate this solemn milestone with a special performance at Kawaiaha‘o Church. Susan McCreary Duprey previews the concert program, which features composer René Clausen’s .....

With the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks coming up, the Windward Choral Society is performing a memorial concert at Kawaiaha‘o, and we'd like to join us. What will we be singing?

The centerpiece of the evening will be René Clausen’s Memorial. Memorial is a powerful and moving work for chorus, orchestra, baritone soloist (Leon Williams) and soprano soloist (Mālia Ka‘ai). It was composed in remembrance of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Diving into this music has been really special. It begins with a beautiful opening, that reminds me of that beautiful blue sky that shone down on NYC on the morning of September 11th. It then takes an eerie turn, before it moves into a moving prayer-like section ending in a beautiful kyrie eleison, christe eleison - Lord Have Mercy, and Christ Have Mercy.

The work is approximately 30 minutes in length and will be performed with full 52-piece orchestra. Additional choral selections will also be included in the program, with a special presentation by the Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawaiʻi.

This collaborative one-hour long concert will bring together voices from throughout the island in a shared expression of remembrance and aloha.
