Today, October 13, is International Plain Language Day. Rather like the Curb Cut Effect, using plain language can benefit a far wider group of people than the intended audience.

After all, none of us enjoy fighting to understand. And we all appreciate when information is made clear and simple.

Teams That Learn Together, Stay Together

This session is a practical look at how teams evolve, and what you can do at each stage to keep people motivated, safe, and growing. We’ll use Tuckman’s stages of team development, translated into situations you’ll recognize from your own day-to-day challenges. We’ll talk about why your whole team needs regular professional development, not just your instructors. We’ll look at what adults need in order to learn (ummmm, because of course we will!), why supervision and reflection are not optional extras, and how to create space and protect time on calendars.

When people feel safe and challenged, service gets better. Learners feel it. Funders see it. And the work stays tangible and fulfilling through change.

You’ll try a short activity and leave with a resource list you can use the next morning. New to leading? You’re in the right room. Been at it for years? We’d love to have you there too!

East Texas, take a bow! 🤩

We had a fabulous symposium with all y'all - and as you can see from our map activity, you came in from across the region! We had representatives from a whole raft of libraries, the Christian Women's Job Corp, the Marshall-Harrison County Literacy Council, Kilgore College, Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, Texarkana College, and others. THANK YOU for being there!

A huge thank you to PAVE East Texas for hosting us recently!

That's right, we've added site visits to our symposium calendar - the day before a regional symposium, Executive Director Katie tries to make it to at least one literacy organization in the region. We were just in East Texas and were fortunate enough to be welcomed at PAVE 💛

They offer a wonderful range of programs to the local community - GED in English and Spanish, Adult Basic Education, College Preparation, English Language Instruction, Business Entrepreneurship in Spanish, Career Pathways including certifications in medical, technical, mechanical, and professional fields, along with Family Literacy, Workplace Literacy, and Dual Enrollment.
