El Sistema Colorado

El Sistema Colorado is an opportunity pathway for youth through the collective pursuit of musical excellence.

Our free, daily music education program teaches teamwork, self-confidence and social responsibility. 45 years ago in a parking garage in Caracas, Venezuela El Sistema was born when Dr. José Antonio Abreu gathered 11 children with their instruments to begin an orchestra. El Sistema is now a global movement of over one million youth. El Sistema Colorado started in 2012, building programs at three Title I Denver Public Schools. Fall 2019 saw the launch of our first community ESC Music Center in Curtis Park/Five Points. Our afterschool strings program serves Kinder through 12th grade, and we also provide neighborhood preschools with weekly music classes.

Your Donor-Advised Fund can do more than sit on the sidelines—it can help transform a child’s life through music.

When you direct your DAF gift to El Sistema Colorado, you’re investing in access, belonging, and opportunity for Colorado’s young people.

Your support helps provide high-quality music education to students who might not otherwise have access—and creates a community where they can grow in confidence, build meaningful relationships, and discover what they’re capable of.

Today we're asking you to take those DAF funds and put them to work where music creates lasting change.

As always, consider making a donation to our work. As our Executive Director, Dr Ingrid Larragoity writes, "[The young people] are our future. They are our neighbors. They are our culture. They are our next generation of possibility. And we have a responsibility to invest in them now."

🎻 Sponsor a Student. Invest in a Future.

Every child deserves the opportunity to experience the life-changing power of music.

At El Sistema Colorado, each student receives a comprehensive, year-round music education that includes orchestra rehearsals, sectional instruction, music theory, leadership development, performances, instrument access, and a caring community where they can grow both musically and personally.

The true cost of providing this experience is approximately $5,000 per student each year.

To keep our programs accessible, families pay just $300 annually, and that fee is waived whenever financial circumstances would otherwise prevent a child from participating. We never want cost to stand in the way of a student's opportunity to learn, belong, and thrive.

The difference is made possible through the generosity of donors, foundations, businesses, and community members who believe that every child deserves access to exceptional music education.

When you support El Sistema Colorado, you're helping provide:
🎻 High-quality music instruction from professional Teaching Artists

🎼 Instruments, music, and classroom materials
📚 Music theory, ensemble, and leadership classes
🌟 Performance opportunities and community engagement
💙 A safe, welcoming environment where students build confidence, friendships, and lifelong skills

Every gift helps close the gap between what families pay and what it truly costs to provide this transformational experience.
Whether you choose to sponsor a portion of a student's journey or make a full investment in a child's future, your generosity creates opportunities that last a lifetime.

✨ Continued Success After El Sistema Colorado ✨
Melvin attended El Sistema Colorado. During his time with us, he made it into the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles and worked with the incredible Gustavo Dudamel. He continued his journey with a degree in music ed at CU boulder, and is now starting his first year teaching in Denver! He sent us this message:

"All my milestones are thanks to all the teachers I've interacted with at El Sistema Colorado. Each one truly believed in El Sistema's mission and showed it in their teaching. From finding me opportunities to play outside of ESC, such as honor bands and festivals, to finding me scholarships for my private lessons, and finally, providing the highest quality music education possible even when our orchestra was only 7 students. I owe my gratitude to all the teachers at ESC."

Please join us in congratulating Melvin on starting his teaching career, and wish him well in his future!

If you'd like to help more students like Melvin succeed, click on the link below to donate. Our program would not be possible without our community's generous donations.
