Hello Kababayans!

The DMV Bayanihan Task Force is starting the Campaign to thank our Filipino Nurses in DC. We are calling volunteers to make thank you cards for the frontliners in our community. We have various delivery options so you don't have to leave your house, as well as pre-made Canva templates for you to get started. This is a great opportunity for students, families, and households to contribute to the cause while social distancing. The due date for the cards is 6/28 (could be extended depending on volunteers).

==============

Kaliwa and the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce Metropolitan Washington DC (PACC-DC) are united in the goal of supporting our frontliners and other hospital employees who are working hard and endangering themselves to save lives during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

“Bayanihan” is a Filipino custom derived from the Filipino word “bayan,” meaning a people, county, town, or nation. Bayanihan represents the sense of community and togetherness of a people who are working together towards a common goal. To promote the Bayanihan spirit, Kaliwa and PACC-DC are jointly sponsoring a C19 Bayanihan Campaign to benefit our frontline workers. We request that individuals kindly donate to a common fund that can be used to purchase gift cards that can beredeemed at participating establishments.

The gift cards can be used for to-go orders or in-house dining, among other things, once restrictions have been lifted. We will offer these to anyone who works in a hospital. People who work security, maintenance, or housekeeping are just as essential as the doctors, nurses, and administrative staff. While supplies last, $25 gift cards will be made available to anyone who presents a valid hospital ID.

This is a great opportunity for PACC-DC, Kaliwa, participating establishments, and donors to come together as a community and show support for our brave healthcare workers during this difficult time. Thank you very much in advance and let us show the world our Bayanihan Spirit!

Donations to PACCDC are tax deductible and we will be issuing the appropriate receipts to donors.

🇺🇸: In this time of the COVID-19 outbreak, there is a need to reach out to Filipinos in the community and learn about their conditions and concerns. Individuals and organizations with the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) are launching a community-based research project in the Washington, D.C. area. The aim of the project is to better understand the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on Filipinos, and how we can respond to specific needs and collectively support our local community members and communities in the Philippines. Additionally, we aim to collect qualitative and quantitative information regarding the conditions of Filipinos in the D.C. metropolitan area in order to inform future initiatives that would develop our unity and response in protecting the human rights and welfare of our communities.
