Yuvasri's Story: Yuvasri is a bright five-year-old girl with curious eyes and a quiet smile. She lives with her parents and her one-year-old baby brother in a small thatched-roof house. One side of their home has a broken wall, which the family has covered with palm tree leaves to protect themselves from rain and wind.
Yuvasri’s father has been a chain smoker and alcohol user for many years, which has severely affected his lungs. Due to his illness, he is now physically challenged and unable to work regularly. The responsibility of the family rests on her mother, who works as a servant maid. Many days, she brings home leftover food from the houses where she works to feed her children. Because there is no one to care for the baby at home, she often takes her young son with her to work.
For Yuvasri, our pre-school has become a place of safety and care. She receives three nutritious meals a day at school, and through our Sunday food program, she also gets food support on Sundays, which has been a great relief for the family.
When Yuvasri first joined the school, she was very weak, underweight, and malnourished. She found it difficult to accept food and often ate very little. With regular meals, patient care, and encouragement from the teachers, her health has slowly improved. Today, Yuvasri is more active, healthier, and doing well.
She loves story time, enjoys outdoor play, and looks forward to snack time every day. Her favorite foods are milk and fish curry, and she is especially happy when she gets oranges, which she loves very much.
Yuvasri’s journey reminds us how simple support, regular meals, a safe learning space, and loving care can bring real change to a child’s life. Through continued support, children like Yuvasri are not only surviving, but slowly finding joy, strength, and hope for the future.
