is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.

🩺🔮 Medical Monday: Kevin’s Future Is Looking Brighter! 💜🐾

If only Kevin’s crystal ball could give us all the answers!

Remember our little Porkie who arrived weighing just 4.6 pounds? Well, we have some wonderful news!

🎉 Kevin has gained 1.5 pounds! He’s now up to 6.1 pounds and getting closer to his goal weight of 7–8 pounds!

Unfortunately, we still have some medical mysteries to solve.

Kevin’s bloodwork has revealed concerns with his liver, and we’re continuing with additional testing to better understand what’s going on.

While we’re thrilled with his weight gain, we know there’s more to Kevin’s story, and we’re committed to finding the answers he needs.

🔮 We can’t predict what Kevin’s future holds, but we can promise him one thing: Whatever the results, he won’t face them alone. ❤️

Keep those paws crossed for our fluffy little fortune teller! 🐾💜

🔎🐾 THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED! MARIAH’S DNA RESULTS ARE IN! 🧬🎉

Did you guess correctly? 👀

We’ve had so much fun watching everyone play detective and try to figure out which breeds make up our sweet Mariah!

Well, the results are in, and this little girl has quite the family tree!

🥁 Drumroll, please…

🐶 81% CHIHUAHUA!

But that’s not all! Mariah’s DNA revealed TEN different breeds, including:

🐾 7% Poodle
🐾 4% Parson Russell Terrier
🐾 2% Pekingese

And several surprising 1% breeds, including Miniature Pinscher, Shih Tzu, Pomeranian, Pug, Phu Quoc Ridgeback, and Estrela Mountain Dog!

A little bit of everything tucked into one adorable package! 😂❤️

🏆 WE HAVE TWO DNA DETECTIVES! 🏆

Congratulations to Tammy Trembley Powersand Kathryn Johnson Sperber 🎉

Both correctly identified Chihuahua as Mariah’s #1 breed and also guessed Jack Russell Terrier!

We accepted Jack Russell as a match for the closely related Parson Russell Terrier identified in Mariah’s DNA.

You’ve been having fun trying to crack the mystery of Mariah’s DNA, but did you know that TWO of her puppies are still waiting for their own happily-ever-after?

Meet Bobbi and Whitney! ❤️

While their mama Mariah is enjoying life in her forever home, these two sweet pups are still hoping someone will fall in love with them!

And that’s exactly why Mariah’s wonderful mom, Amy, wanted to have this DNA challenge: to shine a spotlight on Bobbi and Whitney while helping Canine Castaways!

So we’re making the guessing game a little easier! 🎉

Remember our sweet Mariah? She’s happily settled into her forever home with her mom, Amy, who recently decided to find out exactly what breeds make up this adorable little girl!

The DNA results are IN, and let’s just say… there are a few surprises hiding behind those big ears! 😂❤️

Now Amy wants to have a little fun AND help our rescue dogs!

💰 She’s generously offered to donate $250 to Canine Castaways if someone can correctly guess Mariah’s DNA!
