On April 22, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution led by Ed Markey and Kevin Cramer, officially recognizing National Assistive Technology Awareness Day.

Mainstream Technology = Assistive Technology

Not all assistive technology is specialized. Sometimes, the most powerful AT is mainstream technology used in accessible ways.

UATP will be partnering with the Utah Caregiving Roundtable to support this impactful, hands-on experience for professionals. We will be providing assistive technology devices, including wheelchairs, walkers, and canes, to help simulate real-life caregiving challenges.
This simulation offers a powerful opportunity to better understand the day-to-day realities caregivers face while navigating care, resources, and decision-making.

Our April 2026 National AT Awareness Day Theme: “Assistive Technology. Everywhere. Everyone.”

Assistive Technology (AT) isn’t just wheelchairs and screen readers. It also includes tools, devices, software, remote monitoring, and everyday technology such as smart home devices and wearables, that empower people of all ages and abilities to live, learn, work, and participate fully in every aspect of life.
Why do we say everyone? Every person on the planet will either need assistive technology for themselves or know someone who does. Most are using AT right now! Our goal is to build AT awareness now, so everyone knows about it before they need it, and NO ONE goes without!
