Young Horse Development Program

The AQHA Ranching Heritage Young Horse Development Program is a wonderful opportunity for youth members to further horsemanship knowledge while competing for scholarships. Priority applications are due August 15; however, applications will be accepted until October 1. We highly encourage applicants to submit their paperwork by the priority deadline for the best chance of admission to the program, and the most likely match with a horse closest to their home. Those accepted into the program may receive a donated weanling or can opt to purchase a weanling directly from a Ranching Heritage Breeder. Click here to apply online!

Throughout the program, participants will be required to complete assignments pertaining to the training of a yearling. Members will be evaluated on a variety of horsemanship topics, attend a show, and have a mentoring session with a Professional Horseman. Each participant will be graded on a point scale to be tabulated at the end of the program. Participants with the four highest overall scores will be awarded scholarships and may receive prizes from our sponsors.
