We’re grateful that extra food from the “Baptized in Muddy Waters” Theological Conference this past week could continue to serve the Park City community. Following the close of the Conference on Thursday, members from Shepherd of The Mountains Lutheran Church brought leftover food—including sandwiches from Jimmy John’s—to the Christian Center of Park City.

And that’s a wrap for the conference but the beginning of what’s to come from the connecting, discerning and supporting of each other in life and ministry. Rocky Mountain Synod, ELCA leaders, thank you for sharing your week together for this year’s Theological Conference, “Muddy Waters”, Recognizing Jesus is time of change. Shepherd of the Mountains is ready to welcome over 100 Theological Conference guests this week!

From the space and food to worship, learning, and time to connect, our hope is that everyone who gathers here feels loved and at home.

Hosting this gathering is also a beautiful picture of what it means to be a synod: working together to make things happen, drawing on the gifts God has given across our congregations and communities, and creating something together that none of us could do on our own.

We’re grateful to be part of it and excited to welcome everyone to Park City!

Tagge's Fruit Stand is located on the grond of SOM. They've shared a partnership with SOM for over twenty years. Alizon, pictured, here, has worked for the stand for over two years and loves getting to know the community better through the parntership. Bishop Meghan Johnston Aelabouni has been in Chicago this week for the ELCA Conference of Bishops and will be in Park City, Utah with the Synod Minister Team and more than 100 rostered ministers, seminarians, TEEM and SAM candidates, and guests at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church for our fall theological conference, “Baptized in Muddy Waters.”

Bishop Meghan joins with you in praying for all of the ministries that are gearing up and kicking off this month: for Confirmation and Sunday School classes, campus ministry events, adult forums and youth groups, food pantries and advocacy teams, and invitations: to worship, to belong, to give, and to serve.

Our YAGMs have officially been in their placement countries for a few weeks now, beginning to settle in and find their rhythm in new places, communities, and homes. 🌎

Before they left, our YAGMs gathered in Chicago for a week of togetherness, learning, tough conversations, preparation, and plenty of memories along the way.

Now, as each volunteer begins this new chapter, we’re holding them in our hearts as they navigate new work sites, new communities, new routines, and all the little moments that come with making a new place feel like home. 💛
