Golden Oldies Cat Rescue

We are a resource and advocate for cats 6 years and older from Monterey County, CA who are at risk in shelters or whose guardians can no longer care for them.

We place these cats in foster homes while we search for their new adoptive families. Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded by a small group of cat lovers committed to saving lives. We believe that every life has value, even cats who are entering -- or who are already in -- their "golden years." Our mission is to re-home older cats in Monterey County whose guardians can no longer care for them, or those who are at risk in local shelters. We place these cats in temporary foster homes and then find permanent loving homes for them, enriching the lives of both the cats and their new humans. We are 100 percent foster-based. We were founded in June 2016.

Dixie 11yrs old

Dixie is a beautiful and healthy dilute orange female. She has been an indoor only cat and an only pet for the past 8 years. Her people passed away and she needs a new beginning. She is not a fan of having cat friends, you will be sufficient, although a mellow dog might be ok with her.

Dixie is very sweet and inquisitive, but she can also be very shy… She cuddles after getting to know you. She likes to press the top of her head against you when you are sitting on the couch or lying in bed. If the latter she will lie on top of one arm. She loves to be chased, play with favorite balls, and loves her wand toy. However, due to her shyness it takes time for her to warm up to strangers, and she may not present well at an initial meeting. Dixie also loves ear rubs, scritches on her back (she has involuntary elevator butt), and massages with the blue grooming glove. She is a fiend for Temptations cat treats.

Moon - 5 years old

Five year old Moon has been loved and it shows. He was his person's stars, sun and moon. A debonair and thoughtful cat, he is looking for a new beginning with someone that will give him time to adjust to his change in circumstance. He did live with another young male cat in his previous home and may be open to a cat companion again with a slow introduction. At 17 pounds he would benefit from an adopter who can be strict with his treat allotment, as Moon needs to trim down a bit. He does love to play and has his favorite toys. He is hoping he can sleep on the bed with you and be your trusted companion for many years to come.

Golden Oldies is looking for a volunteer webmaster to join our team who has back-end Wordpress experience, including php and javascript programming. The time commitment is low and variable. Involvement with routine updates is not required. Programming and site maintenance tasks occur rarely.

Alfie 10yrs old

Alfie's person passed away and sadly no one in the family was able to take him in. Alfie has been part of the family since kittenhood -- he was found as a tiny kitten, dumped in a plastic bag along a rural road in South Monterey County.

Now at 10 years young, he is looking for a new beginning. Alfie is a gentle giant. He's always been a "people cat" through and through: affectionate, loyal, and happiest when he has a warm lap or cozy bed to share with someone.

Because he's never lived with other cats, he'll do best as an only cat, where he can soak up all the attention and love he deserves. He would also love a catio or safe outdoor space to lounge about if possible.

If you're looking for a calm, loving, and charming cat to fill your home (and heart) with warmth, Alfie is ready to meet you and start his next chapter.

Ryder is a handsome and gentle orange tabby. He loves greeting his person at the door for pets when they come home. This very loving boy enjoys cuddling up on the couch with his people to lounge, once he gets to know you, and playing with kitty toys. He also loves following the sunbeams for naps. Ryder has lived in a household with a dog before but may enjoy having you all to himself. He may even talk to you about your day with his meows. He has perfect litter box habits and has always been an indoor cat. He was surrendered due to his lifelong guardians inability to take him along on their overseas move.

Sweet and adorable, best describes the newest shelter arrival to GOCR. Sissy was adopted from the shelter as a kitten and returned 10 years later. We are looking forward to helping her find her new beginning, one that will commit to her for life. With her short, soft, gray and white coat and her petite build what’s not to love? She craves human attention and is playful, agile and healthy.

We think this nice cat might do well in a variety of situations. We don’t yet know how she would be with dogs or other cats but given her outgoing personality she may do just fine.
