Today brought a welcome relief to our many volunteers that put there lives on hold over the last week protecting neighbors, livestock, property, and human lives. Many High Desert RFPA members responded to the various fires that followed the dry lightening storm. The storm was described by a 30 veteran with the BLM as the most significant he has ever witness working in North Lake county.
3 large fire began in North Lake on Friday September 6th. I don't have all the individual fires and who responded, however we did provide 2 large dozers with transports and too many engine responses with volunteers to count. Most spent all night working on fires not to mention all the tiers and equipment that needed repaired during the fires and the repairs at home.
Monday I began receiving calls about the 2 larger fires in Deschutes county. The Flat top fire was well within Lake county and was threatening private and BLM ground. Almost immediately we began planning and preparation to help landowners with protection.
I want to thank the following members and the entire North Lake community for the help, and support. The fires are not over with by any means, and we will continue our mission of helping neighbors.

A very late in the year fire was cought near Horse Ranch Hill tonight. A coordinated effort with favorable weather kept it near 80 or so acres. Keith Little from Silver Lake Fire, and a BLM supervisor, Matt Haskins, returning from training in Redmond were first on scene. They both quickly coordinated resources and created a mutual plan. A county wide task force, as well as walker range was quickly coordinated and assigned a task.

Thank you, Keith and Matt.

We've been fortunate so far this year, we had a decent winter and a pretty wet spring and it's mighty green out there. But, we've had some warm and windy days to help with drying out of fuels.
Fire season officially begins this Friday. Please be aware of the changes in regulations that this will bring.

HDRFPA did two Rx training burns today, the first out at Edmund's Well Wildlife Sanctuary and the second on the east face of Ana dam.
The weather was excellent and the fuels were in great shape.
As always, my huge thanks to the stalwart volunteers that make it out for our burns in the basin, Marty St. Louis, Doug White, Andy Hedricks and Kevin Williams. And thanks also to Carol Edmunds and the Summer Lake Irrigation District for allowing us the opportunity to apply fire on their properties, train and shake out the cobwebs before fire season begins!
