Berks Coalition to End Homelessness, Inc. The Coalition is a public and private partnership that prevents, reduces, and ends homelessness through comprehensive coordination of programs.

Berks Coalition to End Homelessness began in 1995 as a group of caring and dedicated social services professionals in Berks County who saw the need for action to help those who were homeless and near homeless in our community. In 2000, the Department of Housing and Urban Development required each County to designate an agency to act as the lead agency for applying for funds and delivering services to the homeless. The Berks Coalition to End Homelessness became that agency. In 2008, a group of County officials and other professionals agreed that a voluntary, part time approach was not going to accomplish the goals the organization set for itself, so they decided to incorporate and form a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated full time to helping alleviate homelessness in Berks. Thus was born the Berks Coalition to End Homelessness, Inc. Currently, the Coalition has an Executive Director and Case Manager on staff as well as a part time Housing Locator. The Coalition is run by a 23-member Board of Directors, and there are over 50 agencies, officials, businesses, and individuals involved.

Why We Walk.

For many young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability, the challenges go far beyond not having a place to call home. It can mean struggling to get to school, not knowing where they'll sleep that night, or trying to keep up with everyday responsibilities while worrying about where they'll go next.
Youth homelessness doesn't always look the way people expect. Some young people may be staying with friends, moving between family members homes, or living in unstable situations that often go unnoticed.

That's why we walk.

We walk to raise awareness, bring attention to these challenges, and remind young people experiencing housing instability that their community sees them and supports them.
Join us on Saturday, November 14th, from 10 AM–12 PM at the Reading Public Museum for our 2nd Annual Youth Solidarity Walk.
The event is FREE, and families are welcome!

This past Saturday, BCEH Street Outreach Manager Mike Noll and Executive Director Elise McCauley joined Schuylkill River Greenways to help clean up some of our local trails.

Our Street Outreach team spends a lot of time out in the community, so we’re always happy to lend a hand in keeping the spaces our neighbors use a little cleaner and safer.

A big thank you to Schuylkill River Greenways for organizing the cleanup and to everyone who came out and pitched in!

¡Muchas gracias a Schuylkill River Greenways por organizar la limpieza y a todas las personas que vinieron a ayudar!

Big changes are ahead at BCEH as we celebrate one chapter and get ready to begin another!

After more than 10 years of dedicated service to BCEH and our community, our Executive Director, Jack Williams, will be retiring effective October 1.

Over the years, Jack has helped BCEH grow, navigate change, and continue moving our mission forward, all while remaining deeply committed to addressing homelessness in Berks County. We are incredibly grateful for the years of leadership, dedication, and heart he has given to BCEH, and we wish him nothing but the best in this very well-deserved retirement!

As we celebrate Jack, we're also excited to officially welcome a familiar face into a new role! Our current Assistant Executive Director, Elise McCauley, has been unanimously selected by BCEH's Board of Directors to serve as our next Executive Director beginning October 1.

Elise has been part of BCEH for more than six years and brings with her a deep knowledge of our organization, strong relationships throughout the community, and, most importantly, a true passion for our mission and the people we serve.

Please join us in thanking Jack for more than a decade of service, congratulating Elise, and celebrating this next chapter for BCEH!

Yesterday, BCEH brought together professionals from agencies across our community for Motivational Interviewing Training, presented by the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania!

Motivational Interviewing helps people explore their own goals, strengths, and motivations for positive change. It focuses on listening, building trust, and meeting people where they are which are important tools for building relationships and supporting people on their path toward stability.

Thank you to the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania for sharing your knowledge and to everyone who joined us to learn, connect, and strengthen the work we’re doing together.
