Nokota Horse Conservancy The Nokota Horse Conservancy® exists to ensure the survival of the historically significant and endangered Nokota® breed. Check out website for links.

Our mission is to continue the breeding program to preserve and protect their genetics and to engage in educational outreach that advances an appreciation of the importance of the Nokota® horse and the need to sustain their existence for future generations. Nokota® is a registered trademark of the Nokota Horse Conservancy®. The name Nokota® was created to recognize the North Dakota heritage of thi

s historic and unique population of horses. This page is intended to help further that vision by spreading information and awareness about these great horses which are just as valuable and useful today as they were to the inhabitants of the Dakota territory. The Nokota® horse is a critically threatened breed of only a few hundred fully foundation potential breeding individuals, and this is after decades of growth from a population low of less than 20 known Nokota® horses in Theodore Roosevelt National Park. As we strive to raise both awareness and funds for the survival of this breed, it is dependent in large part on the Nokota® Horse Conservancy's sustenance of its own core herd, which presently includes well over 100 Nokotas® representing a diverse spectrum of foundation lineages. Private preservation breeders also help to sustain the broad genetic base necessary to ensure that the Nokota® horse remains as adaptable and vigorous as it has proven to be time and again throughout the past, and anything anyone can do to help spread the word about this little known breed with so much potential can ultimately have an enormous impact. The Nokota Horse Conservancy® also has a group page with even more information and great links at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/359787905068/?fref=ts

The Nokota Horse Conservancy® also has an online gift store to help pay for the care of its horses while spreading awareness of the breed.
