A Space for Parents to Process Together

Our hearts are with the Silver Rail Elementary community. In the wake of this tragedy, NAMI Central Oregon is hosting a free therapeutic processing group for parents and guardians of Silver Rail students on Sunday morning.

This will be a space to come together, share what you’re feeling, listen to one another, and navigate the many emotions that can surface after something so painful. Trained facilitators will guide small group conversations, creating room for connection and support without pressure to have the right words or know exactly what you need.

📅 Sunday, October 25
⏰ 9 to 11 a.m.
📍 Kiln Coworking Space
501 SW Hill Street, Bend

☕ Coffee and pastries will be provided.

No registration required. Just show up. You are welcome here.

A special thank you to Kiln for generously donating the space and helping make this gathering possible.

Please share with Silver Rail parents and guardians who may find this space helpful.

Casey and Julian from NAMI Central Oregon joined Paul Roger on KPOV High Desert Community Radio's The Point for an important conversation following the heartbreaking tragedy at Silver Rail Elementary.

Together, they discuss grief, supporting our children through difficult conversations, and how we can show up for one another as a community. There’s no single right way to process a tragedy like this, but connection, compassion, and support can help us navigate what comes next.

Thank you to Paul and KPOV for making space for this conversation and helping our community feel a little less alone.

Our hearts are with the Silver Rail Elementary School families and faculty.

Today, our community is experiencing an unimaginable tragedy. We are heartbroken for the children, families, educators, and everyone impacted by the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School.

There are no words that can adequately express the grief, fear, and heartbreak that an act of violence like this brings. To those directly affected, and to everyone in our community struggling to make sense of what has happened, please know that you are not alone.

Trauma touches far more than those who were physically present. Children, parents, educators, first responders, and neighbors may all experience the emotional impact of today’s events. In the days and weeks ahead, we encourage our community to lead with compassion, make space for grief, check in on one another, and remember that there is no single right way to respond to trauma.

At NAMI Central Oregon, we believe in the power of connection, community, and showing up for one another, especially in our darkest moments.

As we grieve together, let us also commit to caring for one another, supporting those who are hurting, and working toward a future where every child can feel safe at school.

To our Central Oregon community: We are here with you. You are not alone.

With love and solidarity,
NAMI Central Oregon

If you or someone you love needs immediate emotional support, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Support is available 24/7.

What a beautiful evening of nature, cuteness, and mindful movement! 🦙🌅

Thank you to Owl Nest, Bend Alpaca Ranch, and all of our new alpaca friends for making our NAMI Gather: Sunset Alpaca Tai Chi Class so special.

We began by meeting and feeding the yearling alpacas, whose gentle, curious company made it easy to slow down and be present. Then Owl led us through beginner-friendly tai chi at sunset, with alpacas grazing nearby and occasionally offering an encouraging nudge. We wrapped up with warm chai tea and time to connect.

We left with full hearts and a few more ideas for our well-being toolkit. Thank you for sharing such a lovely evening with us!
