“In Wilderness Explorers Makers Edition, our students are using the power of “yet” to learn optimism and perseverence. They are starting with tools that they don’t know how to use “yet.” Then as they learn to use these tools, they are creating things they have designed in their minds but aren’t made “yet.” Week by week they add on to their creations until their “yets” become something completed that they will be able to share with family and friends.

In Makers Edition, we don’t say “we can’t!” We say “we can’t yet!” And then we find a way!” - Miss Kimberly

“In Forest preschool we made tree faces out of Nature Dough! Each kid was given a portion of cinnamon scented natural play-dough, and encouraged to stick it to a tree. Then, we used natural elements like sticks, pinecones, flowers, rocks, grass, and even dirt to make faces in the dough. This activity allowed them to use their creativity and imaginations; I loved seeing what each kid came up with, and how different each face was. You could reallt see their confidence blossoming as they showed off their art work! This activity also allowed them to use their senses; smelling, touching, and looking at the dough, and connected them to the natural world around them. Additionally, it allowed us to have a conversation about emotions since we were making faces with different expressions! All of these different elements in one activity (Sensory play, creativity, development of self, connecting with nature, understanding emotions) are key parts of developmental learning. This activity was such a blast!” -Ms Megan

Have you ever made tree faces before? What elements did you use?! 🌲

Our class welcomed the fall season exploring the shapes, textures, and patterns of leaves by making leaf prints in nature dough, creating leaf crowns for the fall solstice, and using leaves as stamps to make sunflower paintings.

These hands-on experiences encourage creativity, fine motor development, observation, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

I love seeing how much meaningful learning can happen when children are free to explore, create, and play!” - Ms Macay 💚

As the days grow shorter and autumn settles in, the Harvest FULL Moon reminds us to slow down and notice the changing world around us.

The Harvest Moon reaches its peak at 10:49 AM on Saturday, September 26, and will rise around 7:08 PM here in Utah County. 🌕✨

At Wasatch Nature School, we love following nature’s rhythms. Tonight, take a moment to step outside, notice the leaves changing colour, and listen to the sounds of the night.

Happy Harvest Moon, Utah County!

In Senior Wilderness Explorers this week students were practicing mindfulness and observation skills with “Sit Spot Think Spots”. Students found a place to independently sit quietly and observe the natural world around them through sight and sound. One student saw a snake while observing. It was his first catch!

We also practiced knot tying and used new skills to tie hooks on fishing line and go fishing! We discovered the blue gills liked to hang out by the rocks and we caught a few! 🐟 - Co-Teachers Ryan and Bailee

What are some things you have noticed while observing the natural world? We’d love to hear 💚
