New on the AECT blog — and the first in our new series, AECT Journal Highlights.

"From Tool to Teammate: What New Research Reveals About AI in Instructional Design" unpacks a brand-new open-access systematic review in Educational Technology Research and Development (ETR&D) — AECT's flagship research journal, published in partnership with Springer Nature.

The big idea: in instructional design, AI is shifting from "tool we use" to "partner we work alongside." The research backs it up — and the practical implications for our field are surprisingly hopeful.

Co-authored by Pınar Nuhoğlu Kibar and Hale Ilgaz, with our blog companion written in collaboration with the authors themselves.

We're excited to highlight AECT member Dr. Rebecca Clark-Stallkamp as an AECT Bridge Builder. 🌉

An Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology at East Carolina University, Dr. Clark-Stallkamp brings a remarkable range of expertise to the field — spanning instructional design, literacy education, and accessibility advocacy as a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC).

Her dedication to building bridges goes beyond the classroom. As the coordinator of the AECT Kinsinger Leadership Development Internship and a member of the History & Archives Committee, she is actively shaping the pathways through which emerging professionals enter and grow within our community. Having walked that same path as a previous leadership intern herself, she knows firsthand the transformative power of mentorship and opportunity.

Dr. Clark-Stallkamp embodies what it means to pay it forward — connecting the field's rich history with its promising future, and ensuring that access, inclusion, and leadership development remain at the heart of educational technology.

As we look ahead to AECT26 and our theme Building Bridges, we're proud to celebrate individuals like Dr. Clark-Stallkamp who are creating lasting pathways for collaboration, growth, and impact.

Please join AECT in celebrating member Salih Mansur on being featured at Touro University Research Day 2026 with his project titled "The All-in-One (Ai1) Approach in Human-AI Learning: From Information Overload to Structured Understanding."

Salih's poster introduced Ai1 as an AI-supported learning approach designed to reduce information overload, support clearer understanding, and help everyday users move from impressive AI answers to usable knowledge. His work thoughtfully connects AI in education, cognitive load, scaffolding, digital literacy, and human-centered learning design — offering a meaningful framework for how learners can transform AI-generated content into structured, actionable understanding.

Congratulations, Salih, on this achievement and your continued contributions to advancing human-centered approaches to AI in learning.
