AECT-Association for Educational Communications and Technology

AECT is a professional association of educators and others who are focused on improving instruction through technology.

The Association has become a major organization for those actively involved in the designing of instruction and a systematic approach to learning. It provides an international forum for the exchange and dissemination of ideas for its members and for larget audiences; it is the national and international spokesperson for the improvement of instruction; and, it is the most recognized association of information concerning a wide range of instructional and educational technology. Along with our members, we have 24 state and six international affiliates who are all passionate about finding better ways to help people learn. AECT is the oldest professional hom for this field of interest and has continuously maintained a central position in the field, promoting high standards, both in scholarship and in practice. AECT has 9 divisions and a Graduate Student Assembly that represent the breadth and depth of the field. The association produces two bimonthly journals, Educational Technology Research and Development and TechTrends.

Were excited to highlight AECT member Dr. Vanessa Dennen as an AECT Bridge Builder. 🌉

As a professor at Florida State University, where she serves as Program Coordinator for Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies and Director of the EdD program. Her scholarship bridges the technical and human sides of our field — examining how online and emerging technologies support learning, how identity and community form in online spaces, and the ethical questions that come with learning in digital environments.

Within AECT, Dr. Dennen has been a steady bridge between the association and our membership — guiding emerging voices in the field and helping them find their footing in our professional community. Her contributions were recognized in 2024 when she was named an AECT Fellow, a testament to the lasting impact of her mentorship and scholarship alike.

As we look ahead to and our theme Building Bridges, were proud to celebrate individuals like Dr. Dennen who are strengthening our community from the inside out.

"I really didn't know what I didn't know about publishing." 💡

Dr. Danielle Kearns-Sixsmith, Assistant Professor at DeSales University, came to the 2026 AECT International Publishing Summit after years serving as a department chair. She knew research methods and designs inside and out, but she was ready to grow her scholarship and learn the publishing side of academia. New on the AECT Job Board: Assistant or Associate Professor in K-12 Leadership at the University of Wisconsin–Madison 🎓

UW–Madison's Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis is seeking a tenure-track scholar focused on K-12 public school and district leadership, especially the evolving role of AI in leadership practice, data-informed continuous improvement, and special education.

The role is part of the Wisconsin RISE Initiative, which is bringing 150 new faculty to campus to collaborate across disciplines. Current faculty, postdocs, recent PhDs, and experienced educational leaders are all encouraged to apply. The position begins August 2027 or earlier.

We're excited to invite researchers and practitioners to present at the 2027 AECT Online Conference, held virtually the week of April 5, 2027!

This year's theme, Bridging Theory and Practice: Action Research in Educational Technology, is about how scholarship and practice shape one another. We welcome proposals in three formats: Concurrent sessions, Panel Discussions, and Practical Application sessions.

Dr. Reese's work as an independent researcher and instructional design leader sits at the intersection of accessibility, ethics, and emerging technology — helping move the field beyond compliance toward human-centered design. She's co-editor of Advancing Accessibility: Practical Strategies for Instructional Designers and Educators and an active leader in AECT's Research and Theory Division.
