Our Story

The idea for the San Angelo Diabetes Coalition came about in 2017 as a result of a 2015 Health Needs survey that identified type 2 diabetes as a major health concern. The primary healthcare organizations of San Angelo agreed to participate in a collaborative effort to reduce diabetes in the community by forming the Coalition.

The San Angelo Community Medical Center, La Esperanza Clinic, and Shannon Medical Center in conjunction with the San Angelo Health Foundation and Angelo State University are represented in the Coalition, which highlights the truly collaborative nature of this initiative.

Since December 2017, the Coalition has received generous 'Healthy Kids Healthy Families' grants from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas to support a diabetes management program with an emphasis on reducing the number of kidney disease incidences that result from diabetes.

The San Angelo Diabetes Coalition is a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization. The main priorities of this group is to provide free diabetes education to the public and identify social barriers and secure the appropriate resources so the community can live a happy and healthy life!
