Mission Without Borders was founded in 1960 in response to the material and spiritual needs of people living in poverty or suffering persecution in Communist Europe. Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Mission Without Borders has remained faithful to its cause of aiding families and children that are still effected by the economic and political turmoil caused by Communist Europe. In addition to its partnerships with local churches, MWB works one on one with families and orphanages in order to foster community, dignity, and self sufficiency through Christ-centered programs. MWB operates in 6 Eastern European countries: Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.

Svetlana’s kitchen is little more than a small stove, a few old tables and shelves, and a blue bucket used in place of a sink. There is no fridge or proper storage, and everything has to be carefully kept in the little space available.
The rest of the house is just as basic. A sheet of plastic covers the window where glass used to be, while gaps in the walls let in the cold. Four young children - Alina, Diana, Ana and Daniel, aged four to nine - grow up here, doing their best to stay warm when firewood is scarce.
For Svetlana, this is home. And every day, she does her best to make it a safe and loving place for her children.

For Svetlana, one of her greatest fears is not being able to give her children enough food.
With four children to care for, she does everything she can. Their father works long days doing odd jobs for farmers, and sometimes has to go abroad for work, leaving his family behind.
