We held our first Family Financial Literacy Event of the school year at Calabash Charter Academy. Thanks to the Calabash PTO and volunteers who helped us reach more than 80 students and family members with this program.

Presented through the John Nickoll Fund for Financial Literacy, these events provide families with an opportunity explore budgeting, saving, earning income, investing, financial goal setting, and everyday decision-making through hands-on activities. We can’t wait to welcome educators from across the country to Carlsbad as an affiliate of the Council for Economic Education (CEE)!

California is at an incredible inflection point as we begin implementing a standalone, semester long personal finance course, starting with the class of 2031. There’s so much opportunity ahead to help educators feel prepared and confident to bring personal finance into their classrooms.

In just two weeks, we’ll be together for CEE’s 65th Financial Literacy & Economic Education Conference, with two days and more than 45 sessions led by experts in the field, along with plenty of opportunities for connection and collaboration.

Our Financial Advisor’s Contest is an opportunity for high school students (grades 9-12) to apply financial concepts in a real-world scenario. California high school teachers can register teams of three to four students into the competition between September 24- October 8.

Our first online Personal Finance Institute starts this week and a limited number of scholarships are still available!

Participants can join a statewide cohort on a set calendar while also having opportunities to work through materials independently. By the end of the institute, each educator will have a shareable set of co-created lesson plans designed to support a semester-long personal finance course and aligned with the 13 topics outlined in AB 2927.
