Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy We show how their already perfected talents can be applied to the profession of umpiring. Much more so than two people who meet and happen to play the game.

Established in 2014, the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy's mission is to provide instruction, training, placement and peer to peer support for military veterans interested in baseball. Service members are disciplined, organized and polished while in the service of a greater organization governed by regulations and orders... it is a very easy transition to the baseball diamond. We also provide conti

nued support and development in order for our graduates to gain the experience necessary to advance to higher levels of the game. The most important component of our program is actually the introduction into a new brotherhood which is not unlike that of the military culture. We are the "third team" on the field and have to look out for each other. That bond and camaraderie extends beyond the chalk lines of the diamond. When one umpire meets another umpire, there is an immediate connection of something special. Our veterans enjoyed this camaraderie for years on Active or Reserve Duty. In civilian life, this may be hard to find again.

Today we celebrate Flag Day; a day that honors the symbol of our nation, the sacrifices made to protect it, and the values it represents: courage, unity, and unwavering resolve.

At the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy, the flag holds deep meaning. It’s more than a symbol; it’s a reminder of the service, strength, and commitment of the wounded, ill, and injured veterans we serve. Many of our Warriors have stood under that flag in distant places, defended it through hardship, and carried its values long after their military service ended.

On the field at WWUA, the flag flies as a reminder that our mission continues: to provide purpose, connection, and opportunity through professional‑level baseball umpire training. Just as the flag represents resilience and pride, so do the veterans who come through our program.

Today, we honor the flag—and the Warriors who have upheld it.

The final day of the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy has come to a close. The students will graduate tonight. It was an emotional morning as we all gathered and students were able to pass along rank, insignia, and patches to the instructors and staff who impacted them during the week. THIS is what the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy is all about! #

Day 6 of the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy is in the books! Today, we worked on situations with runners on 1st & 3rd, game situations and how to interact with coaches & players, and infield fly.
