Northwest Education Access OUR GOALS:

To connect non-traditional students with the information and financial resources to help them achieve their dreams of a college education.

Northwest Education Access provides comprehensive and individualized support to help low-income young people, ages 16-29, build their own path to higher education and beyond. To provide financial support that helps low-income youth access higher education and meet their housing and basic survival needs while in school. To provide the personal attention, mentoring, technical assistance, and moral s

upport that marginalized youth need to navigate the complex systems of higher education and financial aid. To empower young people living in poverty to develop their own voices and succeed in the higher academic arena.

Over the last two weeks, so many people showed up for students through donations, fundraisers, matching gifts, conversations, and social shares that helped spread the word about why this work matters.

Because of the incredible momentum this community has created, Power the Path is extending through Monday, May 25 with one final opportunity to make your impact go even further.

NWEdA board member Simmone Misra is opening her personal matching challenge to the broader community. And through Microsoft’s matching gift program, gifts to the Dr. Anil K. Mody Scholarship Fund can now go 3X as far.

Established by NWEdA board members Simmone and Ashok Misra, the fund has supported more than 255 women of color in King County pursuing postsecondary education.

Flexible support matters because student success is shaped by more than what happens in the classroom.

Students who started postsecondary programs with NWEdA between 2017–2024 and received scholarship support persisted into year two at a rate of 88%, significantly higher than Washington state community and technical college persistence rates.

For students who received scholarships for 3 or more quarters, that rate rises to 94%.

Every student’s path looks different. So do the barriers they may face along the way. That’s why flexible scholarship support matters.

“Before connecting with NWEdA, I woke up dreading the thought of school.”

Today, Pearl is working toward her second degree. She says, “Support from NWEdA has meant everything to me. It has helped me build toward my career goals and made me actually excited to go to school.”

Last week, this community met our first $5,000 match in just over 24 hours. Now, inspired by that momentum, our anonymous donor has expanded the match to $10,000. Every gift will continue to be matched dollar-for-dollar.

At NWEdA, we know that the right support at the right moment can make all the difference.

For some students, that moment looks like getting accepted into a program and needing the resources to cover registration or testing fees, books, supplies, or transportation to get started. For others, it looks like balancing school alongside work, caregiving responsibilities, housing instability, or unexpected life challenges while trying to stay on track toward graduation and career goals.

This is where community matters.

NWEdA scholarships are designed to be flexible because student needs are real and rarely one-size-fits-all. A scholarship can mean groceries, childcare, technology, transportation to class, school supplies, or access to the resources needed to say yes to an educational opportunity. And yet, nearly 1 in 2 students seeking scholarship support through NWEdA go unfunded.

Right now, one member of our community has stepped forward with a $5,000 dollar-for-dollar match for Power the Path, an invitation for all of us to come together in support of students navigating their educational journeys. That means every gift made until the match is met will be doubled.

Students receiving NWEdA scholarships + individualized support persist at rates 20–30% higher than Washington state community and technical college averages.

And for students receiving sustained scholarship support (3+ quarters), that persistence rate rises to 94%.

But nearly 1 in 2 students seeking scholarship support still go unfunded.

Through Power the Path, we’re working to change that by investing in student futures and expanding access to postsecondary educational opportunities.

Power the Path is now live! ✨

Our two-week campaign focuses on scholarships that help students continue toward their educational goals.

Every student’s path looks different, and along the way, support matters.

Students are balancing school alongside work, caregiving responsibilities, housing instability, navigating complex systems, and figuring out what comes next. Sometimes, scholarships are what help students keep moving forward in their education.

Last school year, NWEdA funded 246 scholarships, while 211 students seeking scholarship support went unfunded.

Over the next two weeks, we’ll be sharing more about scholarship impact, student persistence, and why investing in student futures matters.
