September is National Overdose Awareness Month!

The River Vale Volunteer Ambulance Corps joins communities across the country in raising awareness, reducing stigma, and remembering those whose lives have been impacted by overdose.

Knowing the signs of an overdose, carrying naloxone, and calling 911 immediately can save a life. If you suspect an overdose, administer naloxone if available and stay with the person until help arrives.

Together, we can help prevent overdose and support recovery in our community.

Yesterday morning, a few of our members did our annual presentation at the River Vale Safety Town summer camp!!

We had a great time getting to not only talking to incoming Kindergarteners about when and why to call the ambulance; but also getting to teach them about our different medical tools and give them a tour of the ambulance!

We enjoy returning to Safety Town each summer and are looking forward to next year!!

Last night we held our monthly training! Our members were able to practice and participate in scenarios which they had to treat “patients” (volunteer actors) who were experiencing many different medical and trauma based emergencies.

Our monthly trainings are not just a way for our providers to learn new skills and keep up with the evolution of EMS; it is a great way to practice and stay fresh on treatments that they may not use regularly.

We thank our members for their attendance and eagerness to learn how to continue providing the best care possible to all of our patients!

Yesterday morning, the RVVAC participated in the annual “Project Crash” event organized by Pascack Valley High School. This is an eye-opening and very significant program that illustrates to students the dangers of driving while impaired or distracted.

A huge thank you to everyone who put so much time, planning, and effort into making this event possible, including the Hillsdale Fire Department, Hillsdale Ambulance, Hillsdale Police Department, River Vale Fire Department, Hackensack University Medical Center Flight Team, and the many other agencies, volunteers, and organizers who helped bring this important demonstration to life.

We would also like to give a special thank you to Westwood Ambulance Corps for allowing us to use their ambulance while our ambulance was out of service for maintenance. Your support helped make it possible for us to be part of this important event.

Events like Project Crash leave a lasting impact, and we are proud to stand alongside our fellow first responders in educating and protecting our community.
