It’s late August. Backpacks are being packed, school supplies are being checked off lists, and families all across our community are getting ready for another school year.

But for some families, this season brings another question:

How do we stretch the grocery budget, too?

The Salvation Army food pantry is here to help—and right now, we could use a little help from our community.

As you can see, we have plenty of room on these shelves. If you’re grocery shopping this week, would you consider picking up a few extra shelf-stable items for a neighbor?

🥫 Canned vegetables and fruit (specifically corn and applesauce)
🥫 Soups, beans and canned proteins
🥜 Peanut butter
🍝 Pasta and pasta sauce
🥣 Cereal and oatmeal
🍚 Rice and boxed meals
🧃 Kid-friendly, easy-to-pack foods

A few cans. A grocery bag. A trunk full. It all matters.

Because when a family is trying to get kids ready for school, food should be one less thing they have to worry about.

Help us fill these shelves—and help our neighbors start the school year a little stronger. ❤️

Donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army, 1400 NW 100th Street, Clive, Iowa from 8:30-4:30. Or call 515.282.3599 for other drop off options.

Shopping this weekend? If you're at the West Des Moines Walmart, we'll have donation boxes set up to donate school supplies. Help us collect paper, pens, markers etc. to give to families for Back to School.

Stay safe in the heat, friends! If you need to get out of the heat for a bit, feel free to stop in at one of our locations to cool off.

The Polk County Extreme Temperature Plan will be activated on Friday, July 17th, at 8 a.m. until Tuesday, July 21- 8 a.m. based on forecast temperatures from the US National Weather Service Des Moines Iowa
Activation of the plan includes:
• activation of cooling centers,
• weather amnesty at area homeless shelters, and
• free access to these locations on DART buses. DART
