📚 Why Museums Matter to K–6 Educators: It Is More Than Curriculum

Museum educators are often told that field trips need to be curriculum-aligned, but is that really what brings teachers and their students through our doors?

Join Dr. Sarah Junk Hatcher for a look at her research into how classroom teachers, teacher educators, and museum educators view the educational potential of museums. Her study suggests that museums offer something beyond curriculum: authenticity, connection, and community.

Dr. Hatcher is a museum administrator, curator, educator, and visiting lecturer in Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, where she also serves as Faculty Chair for the Master’s in Curatorship.

🎉 Congratulations to the Haan Museum of Indiana Art!

The Haan Museum has been awarded a $255,823 federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to strengthen collections care and explore innovative uses of artificial intelligence in museum collections work.

The initiative will support a new full-time Collections Manager, provide hands-on training opportunities for college students, and explore AI tools for cataloging, transcription, provenance research, image recognition, and more.

We love seeing Indiana museums investing in their collections, their people, and the future of the field. Congratulations to the Haan Museum team on this exciting achievement! 👏
