💛 FOSTER NEEDED 💛

Ocho is looking for a foster! This adorable 9-month-old mixed-breed boy is around 20–25 pounds and is currently stuck in a poor-outcome shelter, hoping someone will give him a chance.

Fostering with CAWS means opening your home to a dog until they’re adopted. As a 100% foster-based rescue with no physical facility, CAWS relies entirely on foster homes to save dogs like Siete.

CAWS covers medical care and supplies — you provide daily care, love, and transportation to vet appointments, adoption events, and meet-and-greets as needed.

We share all available information about each dog, but behavior and medical needs can change in a new environment. Because of that, we ask fosters to commit with flexibility, patience, and understanding. CAWS will support you every step of the way.

The CAWS foster network is primarily based in the Salt Lake Valley, with additional support in Vernal, so foster homes must be able to travel within the Salt Lake area when needed.

If you can foster, you can truly save a life. Apply here: https://caws.org/foster-questionnaire/

Meet Old Man McGucket — a sweet, soulful senior hound looking for a soft place to land.

At 9 years old and 68 pounds, Old Man McGucket is a tall, lanky Plott Hound with a gentle heart and an easygoing personality. He loves people, gets along well with dogs, and has done great with kids and visitors. McGucket enjoys life at a slower pace: napping in sunny spots, wandering the yard, and checking in for the occasional ear scratch when the mood strikes.

Like any true hound, McGucket is curious, independent, and not shy about sharing his opinions. He'll happily "talk" to neighborhood dogs, squirrels, or anyone who happens to pass by, so a home without shared walls would be ideal.

McGucket is house trained but needs frequent potty breaks and will have accidents if he's not let out in time. A securely fenced yard makes life much easier for him. He's crate trained, rides well when safely buckled or crated, and is generally easy to live with, though he'll investigate any food left within reach and may test an unsecured baby gate.

McGucket does have some ongoing medical needs. He has an enlarged spleen and abnormalities affecting his liver that require regular veterinary monitoring. While cancer testing has been negative, he takes daily medication and will need an adopter committed to continuing his care.

Despite these health challenges, McGucket remains a happy, affectionate dog with so much love left to give. He would thrive in a calm home with cozy dog beds, a fenced yard, and people who appreciate the charming, stubborn nature of hounds. Whether as an only dog or alongside other pets, McGucket's gentle presence makes him a wonderful companion.

Misio has now spent over 970 days in rescue 💔

Misio is a 10-year-old, 35 lb Australian Shepherd who embodies the very best kind of “shadow dog.” He wants nothing more than to be near his person—following you from room to room, joining you on long, sniff-filled walks, and then settling in close by your side once he’s content. He’s equal parts adventure buddy and couch companion.

Misio is looking for a home where he can be the only pet. While he can pass dogs politely, he’s unpredictable with others and prefers not to share his space or toys. He truly loves kids, but he needs a home where his boundaries will be respected. Like many dogs, he may react if handled too roughly, so thoughtful, dog-savvy interactions are key.

He warms up quickly to kind, respectful people and becomes incredibly affectionate. And once you know him, you’ll notice all the little things that make him special—his crossed-paw lounging pose, the tiny tuft of hair by his eye, the quiet way he stays close. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t demand attention, but quietly becomes your whole heart.

In the home, Misio is easy to live with. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and well-mannered. He knows his basic commands, is very food-motivated, and enjoys learning with positive reinforcement. On walks, he may start off a little excited, but he settles nicely and truly enjoys taking in the world at his own pace.

His ideal home is one with a fenced yard, a calm and structured environment, and people who will appreciate both his adventurous spirit and his deeply loyal, snuggly nature.

Maui with CAWS is the current reigning world champion of Best Ears and somehow, he’s still been overlooked for more than 130 days. 💔

Maui is a 4-year-old certified pitopotamus: squishy, snuggly, goofy, and completely adorable. He’s wonderful with other dogs and would love a canine sibling to cuddle with. He’s also great with kids and incredibly gentle at heart, though his enthusiasm and big hippo energy could accidentally knock over smaller little ones. Maui would prefer a cat-free home.

Maui is crate trained, house trained, and walks beautifully on a gentle leader. He’s playful and hilarious (his mirror-barking routine is legendary), but also settles into the easiest, sweetest companion once he’s near his people.

Maui does have mild skin sensitivities that are easily managed with anti-itch shampoo, plus routine ear cleanings to keep those iconic ears in top form. Otherwise, he’s a happy, healthy boy who just wants someone to finally choose him.

Meet Koda, a 10-month-old White Shepherd mix weighing about 45 pounds. This handsome boy is a little shy when you first meet him, but once he trusts you, he becomes the sweetest companion and will happily follow you everywhere.

Koda is house trained, crate trained, rides well in the car, and has wonderful manners in the home. He enjoys daily walks, chewing on bones, lounging with his people, and playing tug with his dog friends. He does well with other dogs but needs slow introductions and a little time to warm up.

One of Koda's favorite things is giving hugs—he'll gently rest his head on your chest and soak up all the affection he can get. His confidence continues to grow every day, and it's been incredibly rewarding to watch him learn that the world isn't so scary.
Koda would thrive in an active home with a fenced yard and patient adopters who will give him the time he needs to settle in. If you're willing to earn his trust, he'll reward you with a lifetime of love and loyalty.

Meet Jasper! At 10 years old, Jasper is living proof that age is just a number.

This handsome Cattle Dog mix still has plenty of energy for adventures, whether that's a hike in the mountains, a stroll around the neighborhood, a play session with dog friends, or simply hanging out with his favorite people. Jasper has mastered the art of balancing activity and relaxation—he's always up for fun, but he's just as happy curling up beside you at the end of the day.

Jasper absolutely loves other dogs and thrives around canine companions. He especially enjoys playful dogs who are ready to romp, but he's also happy to coexist peacefully. He has lived successfully with cats and would do well in a feline-friendly home. While he's affectionate with adults and enjoys meeting new people, Jasper would be happiest in a home without young children, as he prefers his personal space to be respected.

He's house trained, crate trained, rides beautifully in the car, and has excellent manners around the house. Jasper is smart, treat-motivated, and enjoys learning. His only quirk is some food resource guarding with other dogs, which is easily managed by feeding separately.

Jasper is the kind of dog who makes every day a little better. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion with plenty of adventures left to share, Jasper is ready to meet you.
