Bat World Sanctuary Bat World Sanctuary is a non-profit, accredited sanctuary providing rescue for bats worldwide. WHY SAVE BATS?
(728)

Bats are clean, gentle and intelligent, they are vital to the ecosystem, and they enhance our lives in many ways. Fruit and nectar bats bring us approximately 450 commercial products and over 80 different medicines through seed dispersal and pollination. Up to 98% of all rainforest regrowth comes from seeds that have been spread by fruit bats. Insect-eating bats are literal vacuum cleaners of the

night skies, eating millions upon millions of harmful bugs. They protect us by eating insect-pests that destroy crops as well as insects that cause human disease. WHAT WE DO
Bat World Sanctuary is on the front line to end the mistreatment of bats. Each year we rescue hundreds of bats who might otherwise die. Lifetime sanctuary is given to non-releasable bats, including those that are orphaned, injured, and retired from the exotic pet trade, zoos and research facilities. Bat World was founded in 1994 and is a 501c3 non-profit, accredited organization with the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries . Donations allow us to continue our rescue efforts for bats.

We're excited to spotlight a talented independent artist, Kim D. Canales of Multifarious Makings, who handcrafts beautiful bat brooches with incredible care and creativity. Even more special, she generously donates 10% of the proceeds from every bat brooch sold to support the bats in our care here at the sanctuary. ❤️

If you're looking for a unique way to show your love for bats while helping provide food, enrichment, and daily care for our residents and rescues, these one-of-a-kind broaches are the perfect addition to your collection. By supporting her art, you're also supporting bat conservation and rehabilitation—one beautiful bat brooch at a time. 🦇🎨

Thank you, Kim D. Canales, for sharing your talent and generosity with the bats, and thank you to everyone who helps make a difference for bats by supporting an artist who chooses to give back. 💚

This week, we were alerted to a local Facebook post about a bat in need. Upon arrival, we found an eastern red bat mother and her two pups safely tucked away in a box after being discovered beneath a bird bath.

The ground around the bird bath was muddy, and mom and her babies were covered in mats and clumps of mud. Once they arrived at the sanctuary, mom was immediately provided with the much-needed fluids and nourishment her nursing body desperately needed.

It is officially pup season, and calls like these are becoming a daily occurrence. Every rescue requires specialized care, formula, supplies, and countless hours of dedication to give these tiny lives a second chance.

If you would like to help us continue our mission, please consider making a donation. Every contribution goes directly toward the rescue, rehabilitation, and care of our batty patients and residents.

Thank you for helping us be there when bats need us most. 🩷🦇

🦇💚 Simple actions can save bat lives 💚🦇

As we spend more time outdoors during the warmer months, it's important to remember that our wild neighbors share these spaces too.

💚 Check your yard for grounded bats before mowing.
💚 Turn outdoor ceiling fans off at night to prevent tragic injuries.
💚 Add escape ramps or critter skimmers to backyard pools so bats and other small animals can climb to safety.
💚 Protect native habitat by leaving dried palm fronds in place during spring and summer, when many bats use them as roosts and nurseries.

Small changes in our everyday routines can make a huge difference for bats and the ecosystems they support. If you find a bat in need of help, please contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in your area.

Together, we can help keep wild bats safe 🦇

The calls have started already this summer on pups falling from bat houses due to over-heating. If you have a bat house, or know someone who does, please install a pup catcher so helpless babies can be saved.
