The Doberman Diversity Project Our goal is simple: to improve the health and longevity of the Doberman breed!
(1)

The ONLY non-profit, comprehensive genetic health & diversity project devoted to DOBERMANS, helping breeders incorporate advanced genetic results into their breeding decisions. The modern Doberman Pinscher suffers from incredibly high rates of heritable and life-threatening diseases. OUR MISSION is to reduce the incidence of heritable diseases by helping breeders address the depression in the bre

ed's overall genetic diversity through comprehensive genetic testing and analysis, development of an evidence-based breeding protocol, establishment of a Partner Breeder program, development of online breeder decision-making tools, and long-term tracking of results to measure the effectiveness of our protocols.

NEW RESEARCH: Our project has been quiet lately because we have moved to directly supporting researchers. We are now working with the University of Utrecht team to look closely at Doberman Hepatitis, or liver disease. (Note: This is the team that discovered DCM3 and DCM4, which have very robust findings for Doberman DCM; They found no correlation with DCM1 or DCM2) They are taking the same critical eye to Doberman hepatitis and they need ALL Embarked Dobermans to help.

>>>If your Doberman is 8+ years old and healthy, please update us: https://survey.uu.nl/jfe/form/SV_6m5gv3NC7Z9Jg7Y
>>>If your Doberman is suspected to have liver disease, Utrecht University will cover for you:
- Histopathology of liver samples (this is normally a $500+ service that they will cover for free)
- DNA isolation from blood
- DNA storage
- ATP7B/ATP7A genotyping
