CASA of McHenry County Change a Child's Story! About National CASA Association
In 1977, a Seattle Judge conceived of the idea of volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children.

Out of this idea, the first CASA program was created. Today there are more than 900 CASA programs nationwide with 54,000 volunteers serving over 250,000 abused and neglected children. Volunteers are appointed by a judge and assigned to one case at a time, serving as an independent voice for abused and neglected children in court. Volunteers believe every child deserves to grow up in a safe and permanent home and they stay with a case until this goal is achieved.

It was never just one night. 🖤

Little Black Dress 2026 raised $125,842 — the most ever raised at Little Black Dress — but the story behind that number is really a story about relationships.

For Jen, five years of conversations, connections, sponsors, volunteers, donors, guests, businesses, and community partners all came together in one incredible room.

And this Event Committee is one beautiful example of that Ripple Effect — women who gave their time, ideas, energy, and heart to help bring Little Black Dress to life.

One relationship leads to another. One person says yes. One connection grows into something bigger. And the impact continues long after the night itself is over.

💚 $1,950 Raised for CASA — Thanks to The Green Olive Boutique! 💚

What started as a wonderful idea to give back turned into three months of shopping with purpose, community connections, and generosity!

We are incredibly grateful to Jen Larry and The Green Olive Boutique for choosing CASA of McHenry County as the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts and presenting us with a check for $1,950!

And a HUGE thank you to everyone who shopped, purchased gifts, and supported The Green Olive Boutique over these past three months. Every purchase helped make this donation possible!

This is the Ripple Effect in action. One local business choosing to give back, a community showing up to support it, and together making a difference for children who need someone in their corner.

Thank you, Jen, for sharing your heart, your business, and your generosity with our CASA Community! 💙

🎁 Holiday Giving Season has already begun at CASA! 🎁

This season, there are three meaningful ways to help a child in need:

1. Donate Gift Cards — We’re accepting gift cards to chain stores, fast food restaurants, and gas stations.

2. Sponsor a Child’s Wish List — Help make the holidays brighter by shopping for a child’s specific wants and needs.

3. Shop Our Amazon Wish List — An easy way to send needed items directly to CASA. https://amzn.to/4jq4HTd

Every gift helps remind a child that their community is thinking of them and showing up for them during the holiday season.

For questions or to receive a child’s Wish List, email Stacy at [email protected].

💙 Learning together. Growing together. Advocating stronger together.

This past Saturday, 55 CASA Advocates and staff gathered at the McHenry County Mental Health Board for our Annual Fall Advocate Conference—a time of conversation, connection, and continued education.

One of the things that makes our CASA community so special is the commitment our Advocates make to continually learning and growing in their roles. Each Advocate completes 12 hours of continuing education annually to strengthen the knowledge and skills they bring to the children they serve.

We were especially fortunate to welcome Sharon Dunlevy, foster parent, nationally recognized educational advocate, and founder of Foster Care Training Today. Sharon shared her expertise on educational advocacy, school stability, and helping children in foster care receive the educational support they deserve.

And we have to brag a little! We were honored to have THREE judges from the McHenry County 22nd Judicial Circuit Court join us—Judge Zalad, Judge Hansen, and Judge Metz! Having members of our judiciary take time to connect with our Advocates and share their perspectives made the morning even more meaningful.

Thank you to our speakers, judicial partners, and every Advocate who continues to invest their time, energy, and heart into this work.

Because the more we learn, the stronger we advocate. And every child deserves someone who will keep showing up. 💙

🎉Happy Birthday to our Advocate Manager extraordinaire, Sara! 🎉

Whether she's sharing helpful nuggets of wisdom in her famous Advocate Tidbit emails, supporting our CASA Advocates, or heading out on her next hiking adventure, Sara always brings positivity, encouragement, and just the right amount of spice! 😉

A lover of the great outdoors, new landscapes, and a good adventure, Sara brings that same curiosity, enthusiasm, and sense of discovery to everything she does at CASA.

We're so grateful for her dedication, her upbeat spirit, and the little bit of sass that keeps us all smiling!

Happy Birthday, Sara! Here's to another year of new trails, beautiful views, and plenty of adventures along the way! 🥳
