Suffolk County SPCA Offers $2,000 Reward Following Severe Animal Cruelty Incident in Deer Park, NY
Suffolk County, NY — The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for a severe act of animal cruelty at Geiger Park Lake in Deer Park, NY.
While responding to a complaint regarding numerous e-bikes in Geiger Park, Town of Babylon Park Rangers were alerted to a turtle trapped inside a cage secured with zip ties and submerged underwater.
Upon pulling the cage from the lake, Rangers discovered that the turtle had a fishhook stuck in its mouth and had been tethered inside the enclosure, preventing any chance of escape.
The turtle was immediately rescued on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 3:30 pm and was transported to the West Islip Veterinary Hospital for emergency evaluation and medical treatment.
