We’ve been getting a lot of calls lately about wildlife showing up in yards, under sheds, and around homes, so we wanted to share a few helpful reminders and tips.
In Rhode Island, healthy wildlife cannot legally be relocated because they are present on your property. Most animals are simply passing through or looking for food, water, and shelter.

Here are a few ways to help prevent unwanted wildlife visits:
• Secure trash cans and pet food
• Close off access under decks and sheds
• Remove outdoor food sources when possible
• Keep bird feeders clean and away from the house
• Give wildlife space and never approach or feed them
Seeing wildlife is often a sign of a healthy environment, and learning to coexist safely benefits both people and animals. 🦊🦝🦌🌿

UPDATE: $8,500 REWARD OFFERED IN INVESTIGATION OF A GRUESOME ACT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY IN THE HAUPPAUGE AREA

Suffolk County, NY — April 21, 2026 — The Suffolk County SPCA is seeking the public’s assistance in connection with multiple disturbing incidents involving geese being intentionally struck by a vehicle in the Hauppauge area.

All reported incidents have occurred during nighttime hours, generally between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM, along Wireless Boulevard.

The first incident took place on April 4, 2026, at approximately 10:00 PM, in front of 375 Wireless Boulevard. The attached video footage from April 15, 2026, at approximately 9:50 PM, shows a white Jeep Grand Cherokee deliberately striking several geese in the same location. On that same date, two additional geese were struck in front of 100 Wireless Boulevard.

The suspect vehicle is described as a late model white Jeep Grand Cherokee. The driver appears to return to the area and slow down when observing geese, suggesting intentional and repeated acts of cruelty.

An increased reward of up to $8,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible. New York State Humane Association has pledged $1,000, Humane Long Island $1,000, In Defense of Animals $2,500 and Strong Island Rescue $1,000, an additional $500 added by an anonymous donor and $500 added by Long Island Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitator.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.

The Suffolk County SPCA reminds the public that animal cruelty is a serious crime and encourages anyone who witnesses or suspects abuse to report it immediately.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Update: $5,000 Reward
$4,000 REWARD OFFERED IN INVESTIGATION OF A GRUESOME ACT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY IN THE BELLPORT AREA

Suffolk County, NY — March 18, 2026 — The Suffolk County SPCA is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and apprehending the individual or individuals responsible for a disturbing act of animal cruelty discovered on March 15, 2026, in the Bellport area near the Long Island Expressway overpass.

Authorities report that a goat was found deceased, having been decapitated in what is being described as a particularly gruesome and intentional act of animal cruelty which appears to be a ritualistic animal sacrifice.

In response to this incident, the Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. The New York State Humane Association has added an additional $1,000 reward as well as an additional $1,000 from Humane Long Island, bringing the total reward to $5,000.

“This is a shocking and deeply troubling case of animal cruelty,” said Chief Roy Gross. “We are urging anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area or who has any information to come forward. The public’s assistance is critical in helping us bring those responsible to justice.” All too many times these gruesome finds are discovered not only by adults but occasionally by children.

Suffolk County SPCA at the Long Island Pet Expo

The Long Island Pet Expo was held Feb. 28 – Mar. 1, 2026 at the Suffolk Federal Credit Union Arena on the Suffolk County Community College campus in Brentwood, New York. It’s a large, family friendly pet event featuring vendors, educational demonstrations, entertainment, and adoption booths.

The expo brings together animal lovers from across Long Island to learn about responsible pet care, meet local rescue groups, and interact with community organizations dedicated to animal welfare.
