Teach me Tuesday!
Traveling with guinea pigs.

Travel can be stressful for guinea pigs. Sometimes, having a trusted friend or pet sitter care for them at home is the less stressful choice. (The rescue also offers boarding!)

If you do need to travel with your piggies, here are some things to keep in mind:

1. Check with your vet first. Make sure your guinea pigs are healthy enough to travel, especially if they have any existing health concerns. You may also need veterinary paperwork for certain trips.

2. Choose the right carrier. Use a secure, well-ventilated carrier with enough room for your piggies to move comfortably. Line it with absorbent bedding and make sure it is safely secured in the car.

3. Pack plenty of hay, food, and water. Guinea pigs need access to hay throughout the trip. Bring their usual pellets, fresh vegetables, and water, too. If using a water bottle, make sure it won't leak and leave them wet. I recommend feeding them veggies that have high water content like cucumber during this time!

4. Keep them cool. Guinea pigs are very sensitive to heat and can develop heatstroke. Keep the car temperature-controlled, keep their carrier out of direct sunlight, and never leave them alone in a parked car.

5. Keep the trip as short as possible. Shorter trips are generally less stressful. For longer drives, plan to stop every 2–3 hours to check on your piggies and make sure they're doing okay.

6. Be careful when flying. Air travel can be especially stressful because of noise, movement, and temperature changes. Check airline policies before booking, and avoid placing guinea pigs in the cargo hold

Meet Me Monday!

Hi, I am Patrick! I am a bashful young piggie, but with time and patience I am building trust. I love when my foster mom gives my special biscuits from her hand right before bedtime!

I love the cool tunnel, and little houses in my cage, but I really love when I get special toys like toilet paper tubes filled with hay! That is amazing and fun! I love veggie time - we get really yummy things like cilantro, peppers, cucumbers, and special treats like apples and berries!

Even though I am shy at first, just give me a chance and I love to cozy up nice and close!

Say Hi Saturday!

Meet Hayden and Gloria. a sweet, bonded duo looking for their forever home together. Both girls are super active and love attention from their humans. Hayden is quite vocal, especially when she's ready for a meal. She'll let you know it's time to eat! She's comfortable being picked up and held. Gloria is just as food-motivated and affectionate, though she prefers to be scooped up in a cuddle sack rather than handled directly. Both girls love being hand fed and greet their foster parents every morning for breakfast. They're active, social, and thrive on daily interaction.
