Art Across The Island presents
Horses by Edison 1st Grade Students
Classroom Teacher: Jacqueline Smith
Art Teacher: Ellis Teare

Edison first graders learned about puppet-making and art that moves by crafting these jointed horses. They engaged in the symbolism of the Year of the Horse, talking about how horses represent strength, perseverance, and confidence. They also studied the many different coats and patterns that horses can have. Working within a realistic color palette, the students carefully cut, painted, and assembled their horses. Their projects turned out so beautifully diverse, and the class was thrilled to look at them all together as a herd.

On view through July 14th at See Spot Run (1320 Park Street)

The 2026 Track & Field season has crossed the finish line, and we couldn’t be more proud of our incredible athletes! From record-breaking performances to thrilling photo finishes, this season brought excitement, determination, and unforgettable moments at every meet.

A huge thank you to our amazing coaches and parent volunteers whose dedication and support helped create such a positive and rewarding experience for all of our athletes. We’re also grateful to the many spectators who joined us at Encinal’s beautiful new track to cheer on our athletes as they gave their all in every event.

Congratulations to everyone on an outstanding season! Your hard work, sportsmanship, and team spirit made this year truly special. And for those who caught the running bug, be sure to check out the Asteroids Cross Country program this fall!

The health and well-being of students, families, teachers and school staff in Alameda is a priority for AEF!

In May, all donations to our mental health campaign will be matched up to $10,000 and donors will be entered into a drawing* to win 2 Southwest Airlines vouchers good for anywhere Southwest flies.

Don't miss this opportunity! Your contribution today will help us continue to underwrite Care Solace, a program that connects AUSD students, staff, and their families with the mental health providers and social services they need.

AUSD Coordinator of Student Support Services, Jodi McCarthy, provides a moving commentary on all that Care Solace provides in the video below.

Help us fund Care Solace! Find donation options in the comments.

AEF's Art Across The Island presents
Dinosaurs by Bay Farm 2nd Grade Students
Classroom Teacher: Daniel Baselj
Art Teacher: Bryce Winkler

Bay Farm 2nd grade students created these observational works, taking inspiration from the Blue Horses paintings by Marc Franz. Students were offered plastic dinosaurs to create an observational drawing. They added an abstract background, then painted their drawings with watercolors to create these vibrant and cheerful dinosaurs.

The work will be on view at Bay Farm Island Library through June 30th.

May is Mental Health Awareness month.

Did you know that AEF supports crucial mental health work by Alameda Unified School District to help teens navigate their own and their friends' mental wellness? Watch this video to learn more about our partnership.

Every year AUSD provides all 10th graders Teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA), a 3 day course that instructs teens how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among friends and peers.

Last year, Jodi McCarthy, AUSD Coordinator for Student Support Services, applied for an AEF Teacher Mini Grant to be able to train two additional staff members to assist with instructing sophomores in the District. With the additional staff onboard, Student Support Services was able to train about 750 students, whose peer connections reach about 3,000 students, with mental health support.
