We're not just providing funding; we're supporting our callers in accessing freedom, dignity, and autonomy. For 38 years, we've been tearing down barriers to abortion care in Chicago, the Midwest, and beyond. CAF offers support for callers seeking abortions including, procedure funding, travel and related needs like childcare, emotional support and logistical expertise. We have relationships with 75+ abortion clinics across 12 states, and support people nationwide. CAF has supported more than 20,000 grantees since the Dobbs decision with over $6.5 million in aid.

🏃‍♀️🏃 This year, a CAF study found that the median one-way travel distance for an out of state CAF caller was 228 miles-- compared to 69 miles before the fall of Roe v. Wade. No one should have to travel that far for healthcare, but CAF is here to support you for the long haul. Good luck to everyone running the Chicago Marathon this weekend!

Yesterday, the states of Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama filed two lawsuits attacking shield law provision of medication abortion. Thousands of people every year travel to Illinois for the abortion care they want, need, and deserve — many of them supported by CAF. But we know not everyone can travel.

Shield laws have been a lifeline for so many people that can’t leave their home state, and in the midst of an abortion access crisis, any attack on a pathway to care would be devastating to communities nationwide.

It's been 5️⃣0️⃣ years since the Hyde Amendment was passed, banning the use of federal funds-- including Medicaid-- for abortion care. Although some states (like IL!) have funded it on their own, millions are still uncovered and are forced to cross state lines and pay out of pocket for necessary care. Judith Arcana was a member of the historic Jane Collective, an underground group of Chicago-based women who provided around 12,000 pre-Roe abortions from 1968-1972. She was also a supporter and ally of the Chicago Abortion Fund, seeing CAF as a continuation of the work she and others started.

Judith passed in December 2025, and while she lived in Oregon, one of her final wishes relayed to her son and producer of the HBO documentary The Janes (2022), Daniel, was to have a celebration of life hosted by CAF. Please join us in honoring and celebrating Judith’s life on Thursday, September 24th at 6 PM at the Gray Center for Arts & Inquiry.

Last month CAF absolutely rocked the the annual Abortion Care Network conference right here in our own backyard! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Assistant Director Qudsiyyah, Sr. Director of Programs Meghan, and Director of Helpline Services Vanessa all featured on panels to talk about CAF's role as a leader in abortion care and how we're closing the gap every single day. So good to show off our city and to be in community with so many incredible providers and advocates --thank you to everyone who attended!
