Tickets are now on sale for this special event for International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Join us for the screening of Soul on Fire, an exceptional biography of one of the best known survivors of the Shoah. There will also be a post film discussion and Q&A with Marc Winkelman, close personal friend of Elie Wiesel.

“Sometimes I’m afraid the tale might be forgotten. Sometimes I’m afraid it is forgotten already.” Told primarily through his own eloquent words, the film seeks to understand the man behind the searing and widely read memoir Night. Penetrating at the heart of the known and unknown, the film dives into the author’s legacy as one of the most influential survivors of the trauma of the Holocaust.

At noon tomorrow is the excellent documentary Among Neighbors. The film not only creatively tells the incredible story of one boy surviving the Holocaust, but also reveals unexpected stories about what his Polish neighbors did right after the war. Ten years in the making, this is another great film from AJFF alumnus Yoav Potash.

WHY WE LIKE THIS FILM: At first glance this appears to be another holocaust testimony, but the film is so much more. Ten years in the making, Yaacov Goldstein’s journey from a small Polish town to life in Israel is a riveting story, expertly told through interviews and animation. At the same time the film deals with important testimony from some of his Polish neighbors about actions perpetrated by some Polish villagers agains the Jews. The film has an unexpected and very touching ending providing a element of mystery to this excellently crafted movie.
