Sunshine from Darkness We remain steadfast in our commitment to create a community where mental health challenges are met with understanding, support, and resilience.

Sunshine from Darkness supports mental health through education, advocacy, and funding impactful research, empowering youth and families with resilience skills. Founded as a subsidiary of the Lee and Bob Peterson Foundation, Sunshine from Darkness is dedicated to supporting mental health wellness through programming, education, collaboration, and advocacy, as well as fundraising for impactful research and effective community engagement. As we celebrate our fifth year of serving the greater Sarasota region, we are focusing on two dynamic initiatives that promise to illuminate the path toward a brighter, more resilient community, today and tomorrow. The first pillar of our outreach will live under the “blue door services” umbrella and will focus on empowering youth and families with resilient coping and communication skills through lessons in emotional literacy and mental health awareness. The second will reinforce our mission-based commitment to funding impactful research, specifically in deeper understanding and treatment of youth mental health disorders.

💛 MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY: THE POWER OF GRATITUDE & JOURNALING 💛

Sometimes, the smallest things can make the biggest difference in our mental well-being. 🌻

Practicing gratitude isn't about ignoring life's challenges. It's about taking a moment to recognize the good, even when things feel difficult.

✨ A little gratitude and journaling can go a long way:

💛 Shift your focus toward the positive.

🌿 Help reduce stress and encourage a calmer mindset.

📖 Express your thoughts and emotions through journaling.

☀️ Strengthen relationships and connections.

💫 Bring more joy and appreciation into everyday moments.

This week's challenge: Start a gratitude journal! Take just five minutes each day to write down three things you're grateful for. They don't have to be big. Sometimes, a warm cup of coffee, a kind word, or a beautiful sunset is enough.

Journaling can also be a wonderful way to reflect on your feelings, celebrate small victories, and recognize the positive moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Remember, you can be grateful for what you have while still working through what you're facing. 💛

What is one thing you're grateful for today? Share it in the comments! 👇

🌿 MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY | Find Your Calm in Every Breath 🌿

Sometimes, finding peace is as simple as taking a breath.
When life feels overwhelming, give yourself permission to slow down, pause, and reconnect with the present moment.

Try this simple breathing exercise:
🌬️ Inhale slowly for 4 seconds.
💛 Hold gently for 4 seconds.
🍃 Exhale slowly for 6 seconds.

Repeat a few times, allowing your mind to settle and your body to relax.
Remember, you can't always control what's happening around you, but you can give yourself a moment of calm within it.

This Mental Health Monday, take a breath. Find your calm. Give yourself grace.

HAPPY MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY!

Here’s your reminder for today:
Be as kind and forgiving to yourself as you are to others.

We’re often quick to offer patience, understanding, and grace to the people we care about—but much harder on ourselves when we make a mistake, have a difficult day, or don’t get everything right.

Try speaking to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love. Give yourself permission to learn, grow, rest, and begin again.

You deserve the same compassion you so freely give to others.
